heres a story

I got A new custom built pc from OC a few months back. i have to 8800 GTs rocking away and i expected to see an SLI connector either fitted, or in the box of bits/cables/manuals. it wasnt there so i thought, well maybe i have to actually buy it.
i forgot about it for a while, then just remebered i need to get back on the case. especially for far cry 2. i came across a site that says your sli bridge should come included with the cards, if not contact PC manuacturer etc hmm, i was wondering why they wernt easily purchasable.

anyway, has anyone come across this from OC or anywhere else? another thing is, my mate has the same scenario with the pc he got built from OC.

sigh, i cant be arsed having to phone OC. they take so long to answer. what about buying on ebay. they're pretty cheap.

There are some flexable ones you can buy just get one of them. They usually come with motherboards as the space between PCI-E slots can be different so the board makers supply one that will fit, rather than them being supplied with the cards.

yeah so it seems.i got every other connector and dooda i could wish for in the box.
it just seems like the guys who packed up my pc and all the stuff must have misplaced the sli connector. and managed to do the same thing with my mates kit.
its like some kind of Plot!

oh, i've got an abit board. would an asus bridge work? cos that is all thats on offer on ebay..

What machine did you buy, if it's the Intel ie X48, X38, P35, P45 then these only support crossfire.

i got a titan edge custom
abit IP35 board
Intel 2 Quad Q6600
2x 8800 GT

i got a reply from the webnote guy, and he told me its a crossfire board.
i didnt realise this! i've not got myself properly familar with the whole sli thing. its radeon that uses crossfire? should i have got the appropriate board to match the gfx cards?

anyway in the webnote messege the guy explains the issue but then says hes going to send me some stuff !

Yeah thats a Crossfire board which are ATi radeons, you'll need a Nvidia SLi motherboard to run the 2x GT's, with a bit of luck he'll be sending you the correct board. :p

yeah it all makes a bit more sense now. just read a crossfire vs sli article.

i got my pc via the OC pc builder. i got it at the end of august and the abit IP35 was the default board for the titan edge. its differrent now.
but it would make sense that, if you didnt have choice in a board to start with on the pc builder, there should be a suggestion messege to maybe go for the radeons to make most of the board. perhaps? or other way round. i went for nvidia since thats what i've always had.
infact the titan edge custom only offers nvidia cards at the moment.

looking forward to what the guy is gonna send me...

Sounds like a complete mess is made of that PC, you need the motherboard completely changed, send the computer back tbh.

Yup, I agree. Two 8800s in a P35?????. What the heck was somebody smoking when they made that PC as I want to smoke some of the same :D. Stop holding out on us, life isn't permanent ya know :p.

strife and JD. you think this is really bad eh?

i told my mate today, who bought a titan edge custom around same time as me (a few components differed between us).
he didnt seem very happy. like me, he was under the impression sli was only to do with the gfx cards.

so is this our fault for not doing our research properly, or could overclockers have been more helpful. Either by having a better PC builder web system or by warning us about how we could better our component choices.

whats annoying me now is that the PC builder setup has changed, so the titan edge custom now comes with a asus nForce board as standard, and ONLY nvidia card choices!

i'm going to webnote again to ask what is being sent to me. i doubt there is much i can do apart from buying a new MB, which is a very unappealing idea!!

1.keep current system
2.sell 8800GT's
3.buy 4870x2
4.read about hardware next time
5.??????????????
6.create a slight amount of profit.

got another reply from OC. they guys says i can send in the system and they will change the mobo or the cards. he suggests i swap the 2 8800s for 1 260 card. any thoughts there?

hopefully wont be any extra cost to me !

Either a 260 (if you want to stay nvidia) or a 4870 1gig if your a sucker for ATI...

Both will be slightly slower than an 8800GT SLI but not much and have the advantage of the extra VRAM and not relying on SLI working.

I wouldn't change the motherboard as nForce boards are crud and you'd run into other issues i.e. your OS is probably OEM and tied to that motherboard.
