“I was with a Warner Bros executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said, ‘Yeah’,” said Michael - who played Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

“I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath Ledger as The Joker? And he says, ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath - Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘****, they’ve done it again!’ ” he continued.

Hmm I looked at bottom it says that Hoffman denied it:

“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.”

Depp as the Riddler = WIN but Hoffman as the Penguin... Not so win. I'm sure whatever happens though, Nolan will produce another great film.

I love Johnny Depp, so I'm pretty confident that if this is true, he's going to do an exceptional job.

Hoffman sucks ass. I had to look him up, he's a bit-part actor and doesn't have the talent for anything more.

Never seen Capote no, but I've seen a lot of the films he's been in, and he's never struck me as being integral to the film. I'd go so far as to say he's unnecessary in pretty much every role he's been in and could have his part replaced by almost anybody.

Guess it's a good job you're not a studio executive or a film director or a film producer then. Wouldn't know acting talent if it hit you in the mouth.

Hollywood movie exposure and talent often don't go hand in hand.He has been nominated for and won several awards. He's also a prolific stage actor.Whether he'd be good in the role mentioned or not is debatable, but his acting talent isn't.That he isn't to your tastes is of course, your right to express.

You have to look at the difference of Heath Ledger Twoface.. Depp will make a great dark Joker although he need to bring some real sinister "joking" to it.

Vincent Cassel would also be a good nasty Joker.

For the Penguin is more fantasy and is the harder one to do. I think Hoffman's quietness works well (compared to Devito's). I think he'd make a good sinister backseat driver.. I'd use some hitchcock and not make the actor themselves have to be outwardly "evil" but allow the surrounds do the work too.
I'd make the Penguin Chilling. Almost a horror film.

depp has been known to be the riddler for ages I thought... should work out well, could be bad, but i dont think it will
thought i'd heard another name for the penguin, can't remember who though

Have you ever seen him on the stage? I haven't, so don't go on it.

All I've ever seen him in is bit-parts. In which he's been eminently replaceable.

I had him in my head as a poor man's Jack Black. And I don't rate Jack Black.

What does me seeing him on stage have to do with anything? You said he sucked ass,I can only assume you meant his talent as an actor. If that's your opinion then fine..but his talent has been measured by people far in excess of your skills as a critic. If you'd simply said 'Its my opinion that...etc etc' then fine..but for me it's the almost arrogant nature of your statement that has provoked me to comment.

Sorry if this offends but there you go...

Philip Seymour Hoffman = legend. I've seen nearly all his films now and he's definitely shaped into a terrific actor these days. From the days of twister to now, huge difference. Anyone who says otherwise has not seen any of his better parts, or clearly is in denial.

Take that! POW! SCHWAACK! DUNG! DOLLOP! CRASH!

;)

Johnny Depp will probably make a great Riddler, but I don't know enough about Hoffman to judge him really, I'm not sure if I've seen any films he has been in or not.

Still, the last Batman film was great so I'm looking forward to more of the same (and I don't usually like superhero films).
