Hi Guys,

The Excess of Pollution light has just come on

Did a google and found this guy who had identicle problem so just quoting him

"SEAT LEON 1.6 S 2003, Had been driving for about 10mins. On driving up a hill the engine started to cut out but did not stop. The car lost power noticably when I pressed down on the accelerator. The warning lamp came on (owners mannual) for "Diagnosis / Excess of pollution". Can you advise what could have caused this problem?"

Mines a 2002 tho

Any help apprieceated

cheers
Zaf,

Cheers guys

After turning the engine off and on the light is just on constant now instead of flashing seem'd to drive ok to the Gym but coming back it did it again. Just going up a slight gradient would normally have no probs in 3rd it seemed to just lose power but not cut out. Gonna take it to the garage tomorrow

I'll go for coil... renault coil failure is worded "check emmisions" and it runs like its on three.(proberbly cos it is)

bullit
Coil pack or mass air or posssibly lambda sensor, usually one of these three seem to make the ecu throw up the light. Get onto seatcupra.net and see who is nearby with vagcom, they can diagnose it (usually for a pint or bacon sarnie) and save you getting duff info from a dealer who will overcharge guaranteed.

Gonna order a cable seen them for £7 on auction site :)

If it dont work for that kinda money who cares lol

Not sure how the 1.6 engine works odds are its just got one O2 sensor, mine has two O2 sensors both in the cat one wideband one narrow, if one of these gives an unexpected reading it can trigger that light, i've had it come on before, a simple battery unplug sorted it out, that was 10k ago and its never come back on :)

See, if it was the diesel version, excess pollution is a feature :)

On a more serious note, vagcom be your friend, even if just to find out why if it comes on again

Demo version of VAG-Com allows you to do quite a bit actually, with a simple batchfile you can read all the fault codes not just the first few.

Couldn't remember just how much the demo lets you do......but.....I have the full version.

Auto Door Locking Enabled! :D

:( i need a bigger unhappy face, lol!

Just happy i can use all the logs etc find faults and clear errors etc :)

My Toledo threw up that light both times the MAF sensor failed and also when the engine coolant temperature sensor failed.

Its started doing it again today but worse :( The loss of power was really noticble coudn't drive at 40mph in 4th

Left it for couple of hours and its driving fine again but light is always on

Going to take it to garage tomorrow lunch as need it ship shape for Feeder gig monday night

Could the lack of power be caused by the car going into "limp home mode"? (If there is one on the Seat Leon)

I remember reading something similar on the MR2 forums when a MAF failed.
