Bio Wear huge anoucmant tommow (starwars mmo)

I cant stand the animation look, it just gives the impression that the gameplay will be overly simplified and WoW like.

I'm not just talking about "realism" or fancy graphics, but deciding to go for an abstract style does have an impact on immersion and feel. Thats what was so amazing in SWG. You really did get that nostalgic Star Wars feeling when you logged in. But seeing the over-sized lightsaber hilt on the choking screenshot gutted me so much. You just know that from seeing that single screenshot, every other screenshot will look the same, which is the nature of this type of style.

Meh, dont mean to be so cynical, but I was really looking forward to this announcement. :(

Goodbye KotOR 3, you will never see the light of day. :(

Just to point out, here's the 'HD' version of the gamespot announcement.

Have to admit, I'm interested, Bioware havent done a huge MMO before, but hell, they've done some great games before, know how to make a story, and perhaps, this will become the game that SWG could/should have been.
Although I hope they give us a space/flight sim section, although I doubt it!

If they gave us a slightly more complicated, sandbox WoW that also has a story, based around Star Wars, with elements of the old X-Wing games, and X3/Eve as inspiration for space flight (outside combat) and trading...well I think I'll have to subscribe for a month!

Interesting but will probibly turn out that you need 20+ players to see the best of the end content. Story will be great till you need other players, then it will just be another MMO.

Players who were hoping for an updated version of Pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies will be disappointed with a quote from BioWare founder Ray Muzyka in IGN’s recent coverage of the announcement. In their interview, Muzyka says that, “It’s not a day-in-the-life of Star Wars”. Instead, he tells them that it’s about being a hero. Obviously, this puts a damper on players who may have been hoping to spend their time strictly as an entertainer or moisture farmer.

:(

I am really worried about this game now. Why do developers complicate matters ffs!

All they had to do was create a sandbox Star Wars universe with good rules and graphics and let the players make the game. If people want story they play a single player game, read a book or watch a film.

Has anyone ever paid attention to any MMO's attempt at a story? Ever? 90% of players run around ignore all the chat (just click... next... next next...) and run off to the next objective so they can get their level up 5mins before their mate.

Someone needs to tell BioWare that a MMO doesn't have a beginning a middle and an end, in fact a MMO is all about "a day in the life of <character name>" and you are only a hero sometimes.

Also by definition if every single person playing is a hero then no one is :p

I was hoping that it would be a SW game where you can work towards Jedi (but very very hard) or have none at all, but seems you can start as one :(

If I can roleplay an HK assassin droid, that will be my main source of fun. Other than that, this attempt at more story smells a bit like what AoC tried to do with the first 20 levels area and with the extra companions seems to be a much improved Guildwars henchmen feature. It does all seem to point towards a massively single player online role playing game. Which I would be fine with, if I didn't have to pay a premium monthly sub for it.

Sorry but this is not possible in MMO because that would mean either, when you create your character there are some sort of random that let you become a jedi or not. Meaning you might get lucky or not. Other way to do this might make the player do a huge ass quest meaning only the hardcore player will ever get jedi.

I prefer this way, everyone can be jedi etc.. and that make sens kinda because at this time in the story there were a lot of jedi around.

KOTOR1 brillaint
KOTOR2 not bioware game unfinished loads of holes in the story still a good play

Actually Bioware provided the engine for KOTOR2, so that counts as participating in its development. Given that LA gave Obsidian a ridiculously short ~11 months to make the game, I think they did well. There's also a fan project going on to restore some of the missing content.

So did Epic make Deus Ex then?

Providing the engine does not equal making the game.

Alright, it doesn't count as participating in the development either :p

Ok fine if thats how you want to put it, the reason they didn't get actively involved is explained above. In fact it happened to Totally Games as well, particularly for the latter two games in the X-Wing series. Both rushed to market without proper bug-testing. Even KOTOR1 had a few cut segments and the Juhani character was a last minute re-addition, so she has a lot less dialogue than the others.

I don't think that team gizka thing will ever see the light of day - I wish it would, but I've been keeping an eye on it for years, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of progress anymore.

KOTOR2 was amazing right up to the last hour of gameplay, when it all suddenly falls apart.

Heh, well, I've seen some of the M4-78 content and the audio for the cut sequences on Malachor 5 is there (for example, party members fighting each other over the Exile).
