Right, iv bought various components ( refer to sig ) and assembled them etc.. and when i boot the pc up the asus p5q screen comes up giving me an option of either setup or bios POST msg.
when i enter setup as Bios POST msg shows me a screen then turns off after 15 secs it says it has detected my SATA HDD but then says no HDD detected.
The question is what do i do next? iv reseated the HDD and swapped cables etc.

i cannot get into the BIOS, i can get into a utility called asus ez flash 2 which enables me to install a BIOS update from the motherboard cd. it tells me that no hdd is detected and gives me onnly az flash options, Ideas?

I doubt flashing the bios will help, I think it is the ram voltage. Could you borrow some from a friend so you can get into bios to change the voltage?

oh crap, its not ddr2, i could borrow some of my mates though. Surely its not the RAM? that was last on my list... ?

hi, when you first boot the pc have you tried keep tapping the DEL key.
It should go into the bios, where you can set the dvd to be the first to boot.

Then you can install windows, all 3 of my asus boards give the no HDD detected
message they all run perfectly, I think its just looking for raid.

May have got hold of wrong end of the stick here, if I have ignore my ramblings.

when pressing delete... it goes into " Setup " this gives me a list of options :
az flash utility
flash popup
then a list of stats like cpu etc. ?? then it says it will turn off in 15 secs

Have you seen the other thread about not plugging stuff into the orange and white SATA connectors?

if iv had the Clear RTC RAM jumper off when ppowered on, of which in the manual says " Except when clearing The RTC RAM, never remove the cap on CLRTC jumper default position. Removing cap will cause system boot failure" what does this mean, its frigged ? :(

No, just that it won't boot with the jumper removed.
