Got a call this morning from the credit card company asking if I brought 2 plane ticket last night from Ireland that comes to over 800 quid. Credit card company saying I am not liable for anything but why would the fraudsters buy plane ticket? surly they will get caught when they use the ticket especially plane ticket are not transferable..

Anyway, looking back at my statement in the last two month, about from my usual shops (tesco, paypal, M&S etc..) the few places that is unusual is

- 1 ANSWER INSURANCE HAILSHAM
- ROXBURGHE UK LTD WEST BYFLEET (a debt collection company which I paid for a friend)

I had the same problem on Monday. Got home to a message from RBS asking me to phone them. Turns out somebody had used my card three times during the last few hours and had triggered the warning on my card. They were only small £30 or so purchases but because card had not been used much in the last year it was enough to for them to notice.

One two minute phone call later I have been through my statement with the guy and had all the dodgy ones scrubbed and new card in the post. Have to say I was impressed.

Not sure how they got card details though as it hadn't even been used for about four months.

Any ideas how they got your details / cloned your card?

Just makes you wonder that it can happen to anyone these days!

I had my Debit Card details stolen back in May this year - they used my card for a £900 shopping spree at BT Online and about £200 on rail tickets.
NatWest were good - getting new cards and numbers out to me very quickly, although there was around a 2 week wait for me getting my money back as we had to wait for various bits of paper to go to and fro with signatures on etc.

The only explanation I have for my details becomming compromised was the Cotton Traders server hack.
They had their servers hacked and thousands of people's card details had been stolen.
The hack only became public knowledge something like two months later.
Company's should be forced to tell customers of this kind of problem immediately.

Only one of the payments had made it to my online statement when I looked whilst chatting to the guy. Told him it wasn't mine and hadn't used the card on the day in question and everything was scrubbed without question.

Four days later and I have my new card sitting here ready to go. Very impressed by RBS this week.

Someone did a 3 grand balance transfer to my card a week ago and also a 30 quid tesco mobile top up. I have disputed it but am waiting to hear from them.
What i found strange was that a fraudster would do a balance transfer? Rather unusual i reckon, and very traceable. Im wondering now if its just a screw up with the bank.....

Either way i hope i dont have to foot that bill!
