Really started using my wired 360 pad (don't have a 360) for more games. Originally I used it for bioshock but it is proving very useful for other ones that just don't feel right with a keyboard and mouse.

Is there any easy way of setting them up automatically for games that aren't 'games for windows'? Such as mass effect. Any small apps that can do that for you or something?

Playing tomb raider anniversary at the mo which was a massive £3 inc p+p from the bay. The pad makes it so much better as can sit on the sofa while playing.
Cheap 1920x1200 gaming with a 360 pad, can't beat it:)

I really only use it for driving games and sports games, as I had the pad for about a year before I got myself a 360. Although I wouldn't use it for shooter games! Works a treat on Devil May Cry 4 though!

I mainly use mine for racing games and Pro Evo. Have played some Bioshock and Gears of War with it though, although I prefer mouse and keyboard for both.

Tomb Raider Legend was great with the controller :)

Use mine all the time - Geometry Wars, Grid, Trackmania, SpectralBall, FlatOut2..

Can't believe you used one to play Bioshock though :p

BioShock changes the enemy speed/power/behaviour when you plug a the joypad in iirc... So it's one of the few FPS that might benefit (GoW being the other - chug-tastic controls).

use mine for Grid, Trackmania (well, any racing game) and Lego Batman, might get a second pad, so the mrs can play that too :)

used mine for bioshock and crysis - then went back to kb&m

only really use mine for racers and thirdperson games like tombraider/assassis creed/gears

i played cod4 on my firends xbox and got annihilated - its just nowhere near as quick as it needs to be for shooters - i appreciate them trying to incorporate it into the G4W titles - but shooters are a no go. i cant justify using my xbox pad for anything other than racers and 3rd person games when i have my lachesis sitting there! ;)

I have a wireless pad and use it hooked up to my HTPC to play san andreas, platformers etc. I have a Logitech DFP for driving games, it's fantastic. Most (if not all) FPS games I play are soo much better with keyboard and mouse though.

I originally bought my X360 pad for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, but now I find myself using it more and more on different games, such as:
Trackmania
Flatout 1 + 2
Dreamfall: TLJ
Need for Speed series.

The 360 pad has become damn usefull thanks to it becoming pretty much a "standard" controller for the PC. Almost any modern game that comes out now has it all set up and ready to play straight away and some even provide the correct icons in game. Makes life a lot easier, helps when you see the GFW logo on the box and you know itl work no problem :). Some developers still **** it up though, some not putting any dead zone in, or some making it only work while in game and not on menus (Pro Street).

I used to love my wired 360 pad. Then I found out how to hook up my Wii remote to my PC, and now I use a Classic Controller instead, and I'm afraid we have a winner.

Not much help if you don't have a Wii though, since the cost of everything required would be about twice that of a 360 pad, but I love not only having a far superior dpad, but also being able to control winamp/mdeia player/whatever from the remote while I play the game with the pad.

Sorry to go OT, but have you tried using the pointer/motion sensor part of the wiimote on the PC? I'm really interested in trying it as we have two wiimotes sitting around the living room, barely being used.

Only very briefly. There's a script to use the motion/tilting to control the mouse on-screen, but I found it a bit difficult. I'd imagine with the sensor bar hooked up, and using the pointer instead, would work pretty well though. I still occasionally use the Wii, so the sensor bar has stayed in the front room. that, and the connection isn't right either, although the candle trick would work I guess.

Funnily enough, I might end up having to write some proper code stuff for tilt sensing with the Wii remote on PC soon, for a project.
