Do most people have overbites?

Wish i had braces when i was younger, duno why dentist at the time never suggested it. Would have helped me a lot with my teeth. Too old now i think as you gotta be a kid i think for braces.

No you dont. Anyone can have braces fitted. A thirtysomething lady in my office has just had fixed ones fitted. Cost about £800 including consultation, fittings and follow ups.

It definitly helps as it manipulates where the teeth grow as they are growing - this is going to be your biggest downfall because you are a fully grown male.

I assume to sort you out, you would need some sort of surgery and probably a few teeth ripped out to allow room to grow. I bet you would end up having a brace, but if its as uncomfortable as you say - you wont mind. :)

Best thing you can do is ring your dentist and see if they can sort anything out for you.

I had train tracks for a couple of years when I was at University (not great, but worth the effort), so it's not too late when you're an adult. I got mine free since I managed to get treated at the nearby dental training college. Maybe your dentist could refer you too.

I think you're right to complain about your dentist not giving you this advice when you were younger as well.
 
It's never to late to get braces, but I'm not sure if the NHS covers the cost if your an adult when you first start treatment.

I first got braces when I was 11 and had them until I was 22. They couldn't actually finish my treatment until I was an adult as they needed my jaw to stop growing.
 
my teeth aren't normal. with my jaw clamped shut my front teeth only just meet but don't overlap. I can't bite my nails and eating a steak or bacon sandwich is a nightmare!
 
The problem with an overbite is teeth grinding, not just in your sleep but subconciously during the day. I have this very problem, and as a result one side of my mouth's teeth are worse than the other. Really in order for this to be fixed I need to have some veneers put on the damaged teeth and a brace to correct the overbite. But as you can imagine the cost of having this done would be hugely expensive, so for the time being it aint going to be happening any time soon.
