Country life vs city life

Wistow, in case you never heard of it, its near Cawood nr Kelfield nr Stillingfleet nr Naburn nr York :p, I'm cycling back shortly from Manchester.
.

Oh you must be on the other side. I live near Elvington, the place where the airshow is hosted, where F1 cars test and where Hammond famously crashed.

Personally i think city living is best when you are young. At 23 i would want to be where all the action is. Move to the country when you want to settle down with a family.

I quite like where i live, i live right on the edge of a small town, with nothing but sheep and grass to the front and back, but im still only 8 miles from rochdale town centre, 3-4 miles from a 24 hour asda and tesco. Go the other way though and it's totally empty countryside, fantastic! :) Also, 16mb broadband is no trouble either :p

Answer? get a mix :p

They do indeed- in fact Elvington airfield is where Richard Hammond crashed.

When I say countryside I'm not talking proper proper countryside, it's still a town, just not in London like I'm used to, but a market town that has green around it separating it from other towns and it's still only half an hour on train from London Euston.

You know when next time they testing F1 cars? Anyway to find out? Is it possible to go watch? Might key it in the GPS and cycle up there would be awesome:D

but what about the broadband!

I'm quite partial to broadband (I was one of the first adopters of 2meg home adsl some 5.5 years ago, paying £58/month for the priviledge) but even so I could live with dropping to a standard ADSL MAX (<8mbit) package nowadays. To be honest as long as I can get a couple of hundred k per sec with no caps then I can live with it, if if means not having to listen to riots in the streets, windows getting smashed, car being keyed etc.

I live nearish to Stoke and Derby. Stoke on trent is a dive, it is absolutey horrible - However this is reflected in the super cheap houses, which of course are occupied by the chavs/rudeboys. I would never live in Stoke. Derby is a tiny tiny bit better, but then Derby seems to be homeless central.

Live in the country, its cleaner, nicer area for your money (a nice area in a city will cost £££).
My personal preference is a small town or countryside means you can use your car without congested traffic. You get a house rather than a flat. Why people spend £1000 a month on rent of a small flat in London is a mystery to me:p

I couldn't live in an inner city area - worrying about parking, people vandalising your cars, noise from traffic and drunk people, no silence, small gardens/houses, loads of annoying neighbours etc etc.

Just seems pretty awful, really.

Have you thought about moving to one of the more trendy young serene areas of NW london like Muswell Hill or West Hampstead ?

Easy access to beatiful parks, close to your work, they have a very safe feeling for london - certainly more so that Watford in my experience. Your 23 if you still have a hankering for the city buzz whilst your young dont wish it away.

Typical of where I live, I love it, seeing all the fields and the animals, when I go to Manchester or Liverpool I feel sick and hate the mass of people and constant concrete.

Town centres YUK...
Chavs, **** heads, loud music, lots of cars...

Naa,

I'll stick with the countryside with cows and sheep for neighbours thanks..
Mates are only a short car drive away are they not?

Where I live is what you could essentially call being in the country, the village is surrounded by fells/fields all around. We have a coop but the closest proper town is about 8 miles either way.

All the villages in the area have problems with 'chavs'/kids as they essentially have nothing to do with it being so isolated so I would not just automatically assume "yey! country life, no more annoying chav's etc"

I prefer the area with as it is more relaxed and is in whole quieter. But it can be a pain when having to travel everywhere and has made me entirely dependant on my car. Just make sure you research the area's fully before you commit to somewhere and try and get the balance right between convience and what you want :)

I've spent a weekend in Watford and can honestly say it is on the list with Milton Keynes as places I would never ever under any circumstances consider moving to. The Number of Chavs and idiots is scarily high, the place looks like London sprang a a leak and all the puss and scum piled up next to the M1. I'd rather live in a convent.
