FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

Am I the only one who doesn't stop at every check point? I find I can speed through quite a few, then stop, mount the gun and take out the jeeps that come after me.

thats what i do most of the time. wish i didnt have to at all tho.

what would be more realistic is if the checkpoints got remanned after a day/night cycle or something like that.

I think the idea is that you get bored with the missions and go wandering. I just spend half of Saturday going on foot around the edge of the map, without any mission assigned. I scouted some outposts, found some wicked weapons (like M107 .50 long range riffle with the worst jamming habits ever encountered), cruised on rivers, run around rail track, cleared factories, blew up petrolchemical setup of sorts, burned baddies out of Fort, sniped some people in train depo. And because I had no reason to be going back and didn't have to use the same roads again just going around, on foot, seeing 50 sqkm without a single map load was the best fun since Far Cry. Seriously, if there was no set respawn (but instead transports of soldiers going around in trucks to repopulate) and your missions were vague "walk 50 miles north, oh you haven't found it, you prolly gotta go 50 miles west" like in original FC, we would have very, very good game on our hands.

One of the biggest downsides to the respawn system is that it's triggered not only by you leaving the area but also by save reloads if you are far away enough. Let me give you an example - I was sitting on a ledge of a mountain, sniping away people in train depot. I only had 12 bullets left, so had to make sure all my snipes were head shots. I shot gas bottle, which took care of 3 guys in the middle, then shot flamable barrel to set grass on fire and finish off two guys hidden behind fence. Pressed quick save. Snipped guy on the roof. Pressed save. Tried to shoot fella hiding behind some building materials but missed. I pressed quick load. WTF. Not only guy on the roof was now alive, but the gas bottle returned to its original position and flamable can were standing back by the fence as well. Now that is just unforgivable.

Where can I find some cool weapons then? :)

To be honest, I don't think they will ever patch what we - PC gamers - hate about it. It will remain console-ish on PCs for compatibility.

You might be true, but on Xfire it has jumped to LOADS of people playing it, its like the 5th most played game now,

They can't just NOT listen to what PC gamers have to say ;)

There is a golden AK47 a shack up on the hill on the eastern edge of the map about 2/3 way down, mile and a bit up from the bus stop. (as precise as you can get in Africa :))

I don't understand the game save thing. You get a new safe house and it says you can save here. Umm great, I can save anywhere cant I? Or can the console kiddies only save at these places?

Now people who were slamming Crysis now what a poor FPS is actually like :p

Most people just dissed it because they couldn't run it properly.

the textures on the foliage is far better than crysis a lot sharper , and the foliage moves a lot more , let of a granede and all the leaves on near by trees fly off etc

that or the aliens were incredibly boring. I'm not far through enough to judge far cry 2 yet but what I've done so far beats the alien section of Crysis. Graphics look fine to me as well. Significantly better than a lot of games released recently.

Really lovin this game, Refreshing to play a game that gives you freedom to roam around and go at your own pace.

Have to say the physics and effects are superb..Esp the beautiful landscape and how it all reacts/interacts with everything else. Amazing just watching the wind blow thru the grass, or watching how the fire spreads across the area and up the trees..

Been having great fun playing this today and only 16% in!

Definately room for improvement tho:

Swapping to the machine gun when on a boat is a proper drag, and poor that the gun wont rotate far enough round! Not good in a fire fight!

Respawning happens far too quickly! I would work a lot better if it occured say every hour or so in gameworld time, that would allow you to get on with things for a while.

To say how good the weapons are and how they effect the terrain, it would be great if they did the same to the buildings, buildings seem to stay put most of the time. Tho it is good fun to shoot the genade launcher at oncoming jeeps, see them flip and burn :D

Other than that its quite refreshing not having a radar, not having enemies lit up like bulbs, actually having to use a map, and you get a sense of working to get somewhere. For me way better than Crysis and Warhead.

Just my thoughts
Mick

BTW: Anyone know how to increase the voice volume in the game, they seem a bit quiet.
