Looking for shoes that are more sturdy than Merrell's

I bought a new pair of Merrell's about 2 months ago. They looked nice, as well as appearing quite sturdy. How wrong I was. I looked at the treads on the shoe the other day, and some of them have just fallen off. Immensely disappointed with the shoes considering I (well, my mum) paid £70 for them :(

I could take them back, but the shop is down in Kent and I'm up in Leeds. So I'll probably go and buy some new shoes this week, but I don't want to end up buying another expensive pair of shoes that will fall apart quickly.

So can anyone suggest some brands of shoes that are similar to Merrell's in style, but are sturdy? I'm also not looking to spend anymore than £70. The lower the better. I only use them to walk around in.

Thanks all!

Merrells were good once upon a time, and are still comfy but i would never buy them again (and I have owned about 8 pairs).

If your in Leeds do NOT buy from millets or blacks. head up to the St. Johns center and go into Nevis Sports. See if they have some Asolo or suchlike.

I'm sorry to hear about that BlackDragon. You kind of assume that when you're splashing out that much on a pair of shoes they'll be rugged and last a long time, sadly that's not assured though it seems. Maybe you could get in touch with the shop anyway to get their opinion, even if you won't be returning them straight away (surely you'd be entitled to a replacement with faults developing so quickly?).

In my own case I only need a pair of waterproof shoes for walking our dog in the evenings. It seemed ridiculous to go in and buy a pair from brands like Merrell, Salomon, Scarpa, Meindl, Zamberlan and so on, but the £30 Hi-Tecs I went for were already starting to break within a month and I'm trying to eke them out for as long as I can while I settle on which better pair to buy. At least now I can scratch Merrell off the list so umm, thanks for that! :)

Another thumbs down for Merrell; let water in after light wear for three weeks.

I then bought Karrimor walking shoes that have been used almost daily for three years and still remain comfortable and waterproof despite looking a bit tired now. Cheaper too.

My walking trainers are Salomon Snow Clog 2s. I had the original snow clogs for about three years and they've been all over Nepal and the lakes and kept me warm and dry. The soles are massive, but I've got them for function, not form.

Like most companies there are good ones and bad ones in the range. If you want a good pair of merrels that will last you go for the Chameleon range I have tested more of there range and they seem to be the ones that have lasted me more that 4 months.

My Merrells, Chameleon (Continuum) have lasted me well over this last year, wearing them day in day out for work and walking. Best pair I've had for a long time :( sad to hear their quality is deteriorating over their range.

If your using them for walking then i can highly recommend a good pair of magnums,i wear them for work and they are fantastic, they also have a pretty varied selection.

Got myself some Saloman Gore- Tex ones in South Africa- Been all over ZA, Namibia, Boreno, Thailand, Brazil, and Malaysia with me.... No complaints so far!

Karrimor are a great make :)

After spending three hours walking around town, visiting most of the shoe shops in the town center I settled for a pair of these (Merrell Chameleon Evo):

Not sure why I went for Merrells again, but I thought that as it was supposedly a 'high-end' shoe in Blacks, I hoped it would be a lot more durable. I've had them for several weeks now and have been very pleased with my buy :) Extremely comfortable, warm, and seem quite durable too. I'd recommend this pair if anyone is looking for a pair of durable shoes!

So despite your thread title and your experience of Merrell being crap ....... and others here saying the same, you ignore it all and go buy Merrell again ......? ******* brilliant logic there!

I must remember when I read any future threads.

People have posted numerous times about Merrells being good, so you obviously can't read.

You have a few too many full stops in your sentences. Back to GCSE english with you!

Thank you for your positive and useful contribution to the thread :)
