Hi all,

Some advice if I may :)

I'm currently running an X700 128MB and with the imminent release of Left4Dead (and other very cool games), I'm looking to upgrade to something more meaty.

I game @ 1920x1200 and from what I've seen, it looks like an overclocked 4850 with 1GB of memory would be more preferable than a 4870 with 512MB.

Any thoughts? I'm also wanting to make the upgrade as cheap as possible.

Currently looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

How do people with the 1GB 4850 cards find it for intensive games like Crysis?

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately the 4870 1GB is a bit too pricey for me. The 4870 512MB is at the upper limit of my budget (bit over - budget ~ £150), so was wondering whether it really IS worth it.

Thanks for the link loadsa, I'll have a browse and deliberate for a while.

What a shame - the 1Gb 4870s were the same price as the 512mb ones at £190ish about 2 weeks ago - that would have been the ideal card to get - seems a shame that the good deals always disappear! :(

Here you go - as you can see the card has mysteriously increased by £20 - I guess it's just going to get worse as the dollar rate hits us hard.

Due to budget constraints I'm going to go for a Gigabyte 1GB 4850 @ £130. It's ~ £45 more to get a 1GB 4870. Pity as you say :(

Yeah, very pity mate, the res you game at the £45 would make a big dif. But you will enjoy the 4850 ;)

Other than the auction site, the 1GB's are all £190 +. A few on preorder around the UK are having their prices bumped too, no doubt due to the USD-GBP exchange rate.

Well, in the end I've picked up a 4870 from an auction site for £150. Then ordered a Vortexx cooler to go with it. Only £20 over budget :D

4870 1 gig really sweet spot. i got 4870 asus but it was faulty and i did not like tha fan ram sinks were not cooled etc etc and i noticed that powercolor 4870 was the same price so i asked ocuk to swap it
