This is a new exhibition at the o2 in London by Dr Gunther von Hagens, where on display are bodies which have been preserved by Plastination. Read more about it here.

I'm going on Wednesday with the girlfriend, has anyone here been yet or going soon? Looking forward to it!

I assume it's the same one in Manchester?

Was quite good... but a bit short.

The foetus bit was a bit too much for me (emotionally), though.

Dr Gunther von Hagens work is fascinating. Would love to go see that, you lucky so and so :). Hope its good day out for you!

Bloke is frightening. Not just what he does either. He looks like a Bond villain.

We almost went to one of his exhibits over the summer while in Copenhagen. Dad and myself were well up for it but mom would have felt squemish. Bless her cottons I had to take out of the London Dungeons half way through.

I really wanted to see this before, but it moved to Tampa I think.

Definitely going to try and see it this time! How long is it around for, do you know?

I saw something very similar to this called the Bodies exhibit in New York, it was very very interesting. I was glad I was with a girl who wasn't squeamish mind!

I went to a Body Worlds exhibition by him a few years back as part of my A level biology classes - was pretty amazing stuff and I'm sure the specimens on display are even more varied and in depth now than they were back then.

Would think about going again if I could find the time and maybe someone to go with :p

All of the bodies you see are real and have just been "plastinated" (?) to allow them to be posed the way they are - when I went they had a complete horse and rider on show!

The process of plastination involves removing all bodily fluids and soluble fat from the specimen to stop decomposition.

The fluids are then replaced through vacuum-forced impregnation with reactive resins and elastomers, such as silicon rubber and epoxy.

These materials harden with gas, light or heat curing, which gives the specimens rigidity and permanence. This allows them to be studied and displayed in an engaging way, as seen in the BODY WORLDS exhibitions.

I have done all sorts of dissections and experimented on live animals, but for some reason I find bodyworks morbid. I don't think its educational, as much as its made out to be. Its just porn and exploitativeness. But thats only my view.

I guess its not for all.

Kind of I suppose.. I went about 6 years ago to BodyWorlds when he was exhibiting in London.. It was fascinating to be able to see what the insides of our bodies look like in such detail but at the same time he is so controversial. Some of his pieces are just plain and more scientific, showing how the body is put together. Where as other pieces are more "artistic" and I think these are the ones that people object to. Essentially there is no reason to have a man with his muscles all flaying off riding a plastinated horse.. it could be seen as kind of degrading to that person if for example his family were still about. Also, when I went years ago, there were all these pro life protestors outside the building, which was this creepy old warehouse.. because he had plastinated a woman who had died during labour with the 9 month old baby in her womb open for the world to see. As well as aborted fetuses at different stages of development. Well I can see both sides of the story, but personally I found it fascinating. It was amazing to have the opportunity to see inside our bodies in a way that no one has ever achieved before. I was about 15 or 16 when I went...and couldnt stop laughing at some of the bodies that still had full on jungle style pubic hair.:eek:

yeah i went to the one in manchester. like someone already said, its good. not exceptionally long but the foetus bit is most definately the most disturbing bit. you dont neccessarly have to see that bit as they had it sectioned off so you couldnt just wonder in there unknowingly
