Hey guys, now I'm moved into my new place I am very shortly going to be buying my new stereo setup. Main priority is music so am looking at getting an amp, speakers and possibly cd player. I say possibly because I may just use the PS3 to play CDs in the meantime whilst I save up for a decent player rather than get a cheaper one now.

I've been looking at the Kef IQ5 floorstanders and from all accounts they sound great and bright. Won't be able to go too loud as am in a flat and noise will be an issue, so heavy bass is really out of the question. I'm looking for a setup that will sound great at low - medium volume, as it won't very often go loud, if at all.

What amp do you guys recommend with these speakers? I heard the CA azurs can sound bad when partnered with bright sounding speakers so that might discount this range. I was looking at the Pioneer A-A6 as I've heard good things about that amp.

Any views would be appreciated!

small flat and q5's dont mix.

at low volume they arent great (I own a pair). I would look at some standmounters.

Hmm, preferred floorstanders to be honest. Would Monitor Audio BR5s or Mordaunt Short 904is be any better do you think?

hate to live below you then , LOL :D

Hey I'm considerate! I just want a setup that is versatile but can also sound good at lower volumes.

To be honest, now I'm leaning towards a pair of Monitor Audio BR5s and a Cambridge Audio Azur 540a. Any views?

I've got IQ9s and live in a flat and its no problem. I find that the Q9s (not sure about the Q5s) lack low end bass tbh. Living in a flat with a decent sub is a different matter. ;)

Yeah I heard some other people mention that about the Kefs. That's why I'm now leaning towards the BR5s.

IQ5's aren't that bassy at all really, that's the exact reason i sold them and bought my wharf evo 30 mkII's. I don't think you should worry too much about that! The drivers on them are deceptively small.

If you are looking for a good stereo source i always found that rotel's sounded nice with the iq5's. I had a rotel RA-02, lovely little amp that can be had rather cheaply these days.

just my 2p's worth!

I've actually just bought a pair of Monitor Audio BR5s and a Cambridge Audio 540a v2 amp, plus a Cambridge Audio DacMagic for the PS3 and a new Panasonic TH37PX80b Plasma TV!

Expensive month!
