I am having a few issues with my computer recently, as I have added a 4870 GPU. I thought the card was faulty, as I couldn't load up the OS, other than in safe mode, or when I did I kept getting lots of BSOD's. So I sent it back to OcUK, who said the card is working fine. But I am wondering if its my psu that is causing the problems and it just doesn't have enough power for my system

My system Spec's

Corsair HX 620 PSU
Intel q6600 G0 CPU
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 Intel P45 Mobo
4x1GB PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Golden Sample" 512MB GDDR5
2x Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
2x Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Audigy 4 Pro Soundcard with External Box
Floppy Drive
Netgear Wireless Card
3x 120mm High performance fans
Several USD devices, G7 mouse, G15 keyboard, Cannon Printer

I am just after some answers and trying to pin point my issues. So any help would be great.

TIA :)

Had a similar problem last week with mine..

Just built a new system -

Q6600
9800GTX+
3 hard drives etc..

When trying to use my original 650W non branded PSU it would boot but power off as soon as i tried to do anything.

Went out and bought a Jeantech 1000w absolute and it has been rock stable since.

There is a power calculator on the asus website, not very accurate but may give you an idea! - http://support.asus.com/PowerSupplyCalculator/PowerSupplyCalculator_right.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Your PSU is easilly good enough for that spec mysticsniper. Have you made sure the ram voltage is set correctly? You might also need to up the northbridge voltage a tad as your using 4 sticks of ram (I am using 4 sticks but didn't need to up my NB voltage).

Thanks for all the replies, not sure where it leads me though as I have taken out 2 sticks of RAM and my machine has started normally.

Do you know how much I should up the voltage. I have everything set on default at the moment. Cheers:)

Try .1 / .2 volt and see how you get on.
My Abit IP35 Pro needed 1.41v to run 4 sticks, upgraded to Gigabyte X38 that onlt needed .1v.

Hello mysticsniper, is your Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 overclocked at all? If it is overclocked, what sort of voltage are you running through it? :)

Ok thanks for that, will give it a crack and see what happens.

No, everything is at stock volts mate.

The default was set at 1.8v. I tried both 1.82 & 1.84 and that didn't help. So at the moment I am running my ram at 1.86v. I have loaded windows and all is looking good so far.

I am going to run a few tests now and see how it pans out.

My concern is that I never had any issues before I brought the 4870? I had an 8800GT previously. I even formatted the hard drive and installed the OS again. So there couldn't be an driver issues. Strange, very strange
