Rather be - Blind or deaf?

What a choice, not being able to enjoy music, sounds, speech or not being able to see and enjoy the world around you. I would choose being deaf.

Can you imagine being both?

Being blind and deaf is along with being completely paralysed, the worst thing I can imagine. Worse than cancer or any illness by a mile. I certainly wouldn't be able to take it.

As for the question, probably deaf.

Imagine if you were born deaf and blind... How would you picture the world? That... is a question!

Easy id be deaf, then my mate would be blind.

See no evil, hear no evil all over again.

Deaf would be much easier you wouldn't need to pretend to ignore people and you can still communicate and as long as you don't tell the DVLA - you can still drive.

Deafinitely.

Get it? No, but seriously, deaf. Had a chat with a woman who's been deaf from birth and she's very happy with life and doesn't really miss out on much at all!

definitely deaf. i couldnt imagine losing my sight. at least with being deaf your friends and family could learn sign language

I suppose it would depend on the way you chose to do it, certain methods would work about as well regardless. Procuring the necessary items might be more difficult if blind but not impossibly so.

I'd rather lose neither, if I had to lose a sense then being anosmic is about as minimal an interference as it gets I think. Still not nice but my dad has never had a sense of smell and it doesn't appear to affect him too badly.

But you couldnt fully appreciate the taste of food. Id rather not be able to hear my food than to not taste it :(

I would have to choose to be blind. I enjoy, spend all my time (and make a living from) playing musical instruments... So it'd have to be blindness, I couldn't cope without being able to hear music again - no matter what the consequences of losing my sight would be.

Besides, one of my musical "heroes" is Stevie Wonder, he's blind. And awesome.

So you would rather smell a conversation than take part in one?

I think it is rather a deep question as to whether people who are born blind and/or deaf actually are annoyed as much as we would be if we were to become blind and/or deaf. They have never truly experienced the sense, and would therefore not be able to actually know what they are missing. It is a sad thought.

so youd give up everything for music.. thats pretty deep right there. Blind people can have sex, would be pretty crap though, wouldnt know whats what
Yes, I would give everything sight related up for music.

I wouldn't know if blind people have good sex or not, I'd imagine its just as possible for them as it is for people with sight though.
