Hi guys.

I was wondering what the bodybuilders out there do when you have no food and are really hungry. Its inevitable that i don't always have chicken and rice or a shake on hand all the time. This means that i find im eating crisps and chocolate just to stop me from being hungry as its all i can get hold of sometimes. Do you think its better to eat the junk or should you just stay hungry and wait till you can get some proper food?

I wouldn't mind hearing an answer to this question as well...

But I suppose people in the know will say "always make sure you have decent food available to you so you don't ever go hungry!!" :p

look for something that would meet the kcal value of the meal you would normally be eating at that time.
try to find something other than chocolate as that will just cause a spike.

low gi and you should be fine.
having said that, something or nothing? something :]

I find it hard to believe anybody keen on bodybuilding cannot locate some decent quality food, or at least prepare something with some ingredients he can buy from a supermarket, or a shop near work.

Worse comes to worse of course buying a sandwich is fine, and wouldn't choose to eat nothing, but I tend to have some decent food around me at all times - heck I've just been to my local supermarket near work to buy 1/2 a roasted chicken for lunch.

I would however have to be in desperation to go to a fast food joint like McD or KFC etc... there's just no need to go to such places really. As a one off, I guess it's ok, but really the nutritional content is so poor you'd be better off just spending an hour finding somewhere else. I just can't believe there's nowhere else to go.

I work on an industrial estate so its pretty far away from anywhere. All we have is a vending machine which serve the usual junk.

Admittedly with a bit more planning i could have my food sorted, but somedays i don't have time, simply forget or eat all my food and still feel hungry!

industrial estates normally have some burger vans.

should be able to get an omlette or some scrambled egg made up :]

Have to agree with Will on the KFC / Maccy D's, however, im generally too bloody lazy to sort myself something proper.
But, just remember that what you are eating is crap - even the 5 chicken pieces are crap in terms of nutritional value.
Generally its the coating that makes things REALLY bad. So if you were to go KFC, get the coating off and let the grease drip for a minute before eating ;]

Take some protein shakes/bars to work? In my old job I had a tub of protein powder and some protein bars in my desk drawers for such an event.
It's not ideal but surely it's better for you than eating a chocolate bar.

Have to agree.
I've got 2x5kg tubs next to my chair right now :]

Make food in batches at the start of the week.
Every Sunday I always cook a huge saucepan of rice and a load of chicken/turkey breasts/steaks which I can keep in the fridge and take with me every day. Also have protein bars/shakes as others have said.

Out of interest, how long does chicken, turkey etchg keep for after being cooked and left in the fridge? I always cook my meals for work the night before.

Intsead of creating a new thread about this I'll post here as it's somewhat related. I'm trying to come up with some ideas of meals to prepare for lunches during the day. At the moment I'm having tuna and chicken breast sandwiches and a protein shake with some snacks i.e. nuts, fruit. Perhaps post up what you have to give me some inspiration. Cheers.
