Top 100 DJs 2008

i never said tdaft punk should be in it. infact on another forum i just said that they shouldnt because they dont DJ . just like deadmau5 and a few of those trance djs dont... :/

where did i say anything about it needing to be away from popular music ?

my whole problems with that chart is the opposite. it doesnt represent whats popular or what people here are into at all

look at the warehouse project and the matter opening lineps for people who ARE popular in the uk at the moment. nearly every event at them both is sold out.

ps. I HATE deadmau5 :p

he just does live shows with his own material. on a macbook with a xone midi controller. and im sure its not just him and daft punk on that list who do that.

i hate him too. infact theres no one i want to hit in the face more, admittedly he blew the roof off digital the other weekend :S

Well he was great over here in August. Yeah he played a lot of his own music, but it's not a live show (unless you consider the live re-editing as being that, and I don't think you can), and the place was packed and bouncing all night long.

As for what's currently popular, we had Garnier and Richard Durrand (sp) playing here at the w-end. Garnier didn't even sell out in Belfast despite tickets being on sale for 3 months, whilst Durrand almost filled a larger club that's out in the middle of nowhere.

Now I'm not a fan of that type of trance (maybe 8 years ago, tho I am a Sasha whore), but it's hugely popular.

Deadmau5 was so loud when he played a set in Bristol recently, it made me go to the toilet because I thought I was going to **** myself. No, really.

Indeed, getting a bit fed up of people say x person shouldnt be here or there.

Its a popularity vote, you vote for your favourite DJ's. In no way, shape, or form is it about technical ability etc, it's just purely who you enjoy and think is the best.

Agreed, there are tonnes of technical masters and crowd workers who blow some of the top names, but they obviously aren't as popular as the rest.

It's quite obvious why people such as Riton and Boys Noize aren't high up in the ranks. I wish people would stop looking so deep into it as afterall, that is all it is, a popularity contest.

Loving this thread been wanting to find some trance to buy and all the names mentioned are a great start! Now I can finally find some trance events to go to just to mix it up with the dnb!

O rly? I only remember them from a while ago (well, nearing last year tbh) so not sure on any new stuff. And I've been moving to dnb/dub recently so not kept with the psy genre

Apart from Laurent Garnier, none of those DJ's on that list really float my boat really... I don't see any Andy C, DJ Rupture, Skream, Kode 9, Luke Vibert, Drop the Lime, etc...

I'm surprised Beardyman is hosting it tho, isn't he a beatboxer? It might be worth going just for that... ;) :p
Whos gonna get number 1 this year?
Probably tiesto :( It would be hilarious if it was Rick Astley tho. :D

Also, what's the deal with this Deadmau5 guy? I've never head of him?

must have been under a rock to of not heard of deadmau5!

anyway this poll by datatransmission and pioneer is far more realistic IMO. and theres no denying that all those people deserve to be up there http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/features209.aspx

1.Erol Alkan
2.John Digweed
3.Sasha
4.Danny Howells
5.Above & Beyond
6.Riley & Durrant
7.Armin Van Buuren
8.Carl Cox
9.James Zabiela
10.Paul Van Dyk

‘I am extremely humbled that people voted for me, but I cannot stress enough that - for me - it is impossible, and yet to a degree quite pointless, to put Dj’s into a list and grade one above another. In this instance I do feel that Datatransmission and Pioneer have done something positive and rather interesting in limiting the voting to just the UK for the duration of a week, as it makes more sense then some of the more mainstream polls.

I have always felt quite uncomfortable with awards and lists in general, whether I have come at the top or bottom of any poll, but I do not wish to underestimate or insult anybody’s vote, for which I am grateful.’

Don't misread the above as me denouncing this poll, as I am not, but it proves as an interesting alternative not just for who comes out on top, but for people who have been voted for in general.

if you look at the rest of the top 40 then youl see that its a much more rounded poll. its still dominated by trance and prog house but has people from all genres scattered in too

I'd put Pvd ahead of A&B and Armin, but yes, the poll is much more balanced than the trance-fest that is the DJ Mag poll... speaking as a trance lover, lol

Because he was shouting a lot or did you have the trots?
The music really was that loud. Unless you were pilled out or drunk, it was uncomfortable to stand in the main room. Some of my friends couldn't take it.

Myself, having a tame night, I had a few pints and was dancing away. However, when the music was cranked up that little bit more at the start of deadmau5, my t shirt was flapping with bass in the middle of the crowd.

I think it got turned down a touch towards the end, but yes, it really did move my bowels literally.

Motion is always one step too loud.
