hi - i work on a pc - all day, every day

i heard that if you spend so much time on a pc then your employer has to provide you with some kind of standard allowance for eyetests/glasses

is this true?

has anyone got anything i need to know about before asking?

I can get free eye-tests from my company (just collect a form from Occ Health and take it to the right optician) but as I have worn glasses since 13 I don't get anything towards the glasses.

Yep I get a fee eye test every year, and my boss has just got money towards his glasses.

You pay for it then claim it back.

cool - so what am i entitled to by law?
is it just the eye test?

i doubt i will get any funding towards anything else
[pretty sure im going to need some glasses soon]

You get a free eye test:

You must request a free eye test before you go to your opticians, otherwise you may not be able to get the test refunded, even if it is specifically related to computer use. Approach your manager, before you request a test.

You may already qualify for a free eye test (for example for reasons of age or medical reasons). As you may wish to claim money back towards any glasses recommended by your optician, it is still best to inform your manager in advance that you are having your eyes tested under the provisions of this policy.

You must have your eye test within four weeks of making a request.

Before your eye test you should measure the distance between your eyes and the computer screen. Your optician will need this information when testing your eyes.

Remember to get a receipt from your optician.

After:

If you need glasses I believe that your emploer will contribute up to £50 towards the cost of frames and lenses. Check with HR.

We get em, but we have to pay for the test and then claim in back on expenses, which is fair enough.

Don't get anything towards the glasses but then i dont expect anything, a) dont want some ***** NHS like ones, b) I spend a lot of my spare time infront of screens so its not their fault.

I get eyecare vouchers from my employer, take it to the opticians, give it to him, have my test, leave without paying.
