BBC Issue apology over Ross/Brand 'Prank'

It doesn't give anyone the right to make the phone calls and leave the messages, it is illegal to use the phone system this way, simple as and end of.

Considering a couple of things this whole discussion is even more ridiculous as:

a) These calls were never intended to cause upset. There's no malice behind them. They weren't intended to cause distress or anxiety. It was just an immature segment on a radio show without much thought behind it.
b) The person who received the calls didn't deem them worth bothering the police about.

They repulsed listeners thats enough.

Nice to see she's got herself a nice big 'my story' article in one of the tabloids today, I'm sure being so offended and all that she won't be using her own grandfather's distressing episode for her own personal gain.
I'd imagine all the money will be going to a charity or something.
Or possibly some clothes, clearly she can't afford any, because all the pictures I've seen of her so far involve her being practically naked.
Poor mite.

You have missed the point completely.

Editor's fault tbh - Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand are always on the edge as to what's acceptable most of the time... they just do what they do and make a programme and then it's down to the editor to cut it as they see fit to broadcast...

The prank call wasn't that bad in and of itself, but broadcasting it was stupid.

I don't think so. If this whole episode is so distressing for the individuals involved, and that is the problem, why is it all over the media? Is the granddaughter alleviating her grandfathers supposed anguish by talking to the press?

What?! IMHO this changes the whole thing. So what they said wasn't even untrue?

How can a girl who... need to be careful here if she is so legal-happy.. you know, now claim to be so 'offended'?
eh? So if your grand daughter (if you had one) had been poked by brand and then he proceeded to call you up and harp on about it, then you said that you didnt want it to be aired, but they went and did it anyway, you wouldnt be annoyed some what?

if you think shes gone in the paper just to make money then your daft. shes gone in the paper to try and get some justice for what they did to her grandfather. id be just as appauled if someone did that to my elderely grandad.

im glad to hear theyve been suspended over it tbh

so is she in the Sun with her clothes missing?

nope shes just giving her opinion :

bbc about the sun article said:
Meanwhile, Ms Baillie, 23, told the Sun the pair should "pay for what they've done with their jobs".

She said her grandfather was "really upset and says he wants the whole situation to end".

"What's funny about humiliating a lovely old man who has never harmed anyone in his life?" she added.

She said Brand and Ross were "beyond contempt".

"It was bad enough that they recorded these things on my grandfather's answer machine but astonishing the BBC saw fit to broadcast it when they could have stopped it.

all fair points...
