Freemasonary....

How many people here would join if invited?
Can we have a poll?

I've been to one of their friends and family things before and been invited to join but said no. I don't think they are allowed to actively recruit people, people have to ask and be recommended by current members etc..

Any who... it is just a bunch of blokes that get together, have some funky rituals, help out A LOT with charities and feel they can rely on each other, oh and "have" to have believe in some kind of supreme being (which counts me out anyway).

Nothing secretive about them nor do they run the world. My father in law is a member of a lodge cant remember all the titles that he has had. Also when I went to an event the lodge grand master at the time was a black postman. It is neither racist nor the province of the rich.

but I personally would be very wary of any ceremonies and the history behind any traditions that are carried out, and would very much want to be sure of whether they are based in an occult background or not.
Like christmas and easter you mean?

Nearly all of my friends, and my family (Dad, Uncle, Cousins etc.) are members. I cba. It's just a load of blokes, mostly late middle-aged and older, standing around, reciting a few passages, then hitting the pub after to complain about the world. I skip all the ceremonial guff and go straight to the pub :p

Do you *have* do believe in a devine being? It's seems to be rather loose at best. It would go against everything I believe to even pretend that i do for the sake of a membership :/

How are they going to prove or disprove your belief?

Its called blagging, although I can't see the fascination with the 'club'.

my dad got invited to join the masons, but he cba with all the meetings, functions and fund raisers in the end

There is no religion :p you beleive what you want
the way he described it its really just a club

I'm just curious. I'm not going to go out of my way to join it. My point was, rather, that i couldnt even bring myself to stand in a group and read a passage. It would make me feel terrible :/

lol, indeed.

I don't want to go off topic discussing this in depth, but it's widely accepted that Jesus most likely wasn't born on the 25th of December it's just when we celebrate it, and Easter Sunday is always moved to coincide with the date Jesus was crucified according to the moon which was how they did dates in those days, it's not the spring festival or whatever the pagan thing is around then.

I'm not really qualified to discuss the pagan festivals that also occurred at similar times, but it's not like by celebrating Jesus' birth I'm somehow involving myself in some weird ritual with skulls (ala OP)!

Really? then why did these festivals only start when christians moved to Europe? And why is so much pagan symbolism involved in both?

Yes, because changing the date of a festival based on where the moon is isn't pagan at all is it ;)

Figures, since you skipped past Dolph's genuine question and instead decided to take the easier route of misunderstanding my *joke*, trying to make me the scapegoat and give yourself an excuse to nip off without finishing what you started.

i'm totally calling you on that.

As far as I can tell, you just have to believe in a supreme being and the conditions are loose, it could be anything, a turtle, the internet, or my personal favourite being me.

I'm going to join the masons when I hit 21 just for shigs. And to see the lizard men.

Me and my friend were invited to join when we turn 21, but they do seem to be dying out.

Nope. You just have to accept that there is the possibility that something created us, be it the big bang, aliens from Xenu, God, etc. You don't have to declare which you believe, nor that it was divine, just that there is an unknown.

Again, this varies from lodge to lodge. Greatly.

my friends grandfather was a mason and when he was diagnosed with alzheimer's, the masons put him in the masonic care lodges (better than bupa, from what i've heard) untill he passed away.

sounds like a nice bunch to me.
