Theres got to be some difference! Even if its like 0.0000000000000000001
I've seen speaker cables for £0.75p/m and some for £1,080p/m. There must be something in the technology that makes a difference.
I cant really see people paying thousands and thousand pounds on AV hardware and then buying cheap0 cables to link it all together.
Its like buying a veyron and then feeding it on RON95......
I still believe there is a slight difference in how hard the digital correction works in the amp/tv/etc when using different quality cables
Probably isnt worth buying the more rediculously priced hdmi cables for cheap to moderate set-ups - but if yur paying £2000 for a plasma tv, £1000 for a decent amp and another £1000 on sub/speakers, why not pay £200 for 3 hdmi leads of reasonable quality.
For a setup that costs a total of £1000 or less, then just get the cheapest you can get

Amps do make a massive difference, my arcam delta 290 (greta amp with solid 75w rms) was brought to its knees by my ATCs and sounded like an old pensioner wheezing, but my lyngdorf is like angelina jolie and jennifer aniston having a lesbo experience together. Lyngdorf is about £1400 new (I paid £600) and the arcam is about 12 years old and about £100 now. Massive difference, but then to upgrade from my lyngdorf, well could look at a £4k karan but the law of diminishing returns would really kick in.
anyway i tried a few places to get a cheapo cable all well known high street stores the cheapest cable i could find was around £30 pounds
I'm not saying they don't make any difference - obviously driving a massive pair of speakers with a 50w amp, you'll soon run into distortion at any reasonable levels. Since high end speakers generally need more power, you'll need to spend a fair whack on an amp that will power them to decent levels without distortion. I'm just dubious of the claims that "amp A sounds warm and amp B sounds bright" etc. and the idea that amps have different characters, when controlled tests have demonstrated that people cannot tell amp A from B.
Your point about Jolie/Aniston is a lovely thought but it's not very scientific either, what kind of experience are we talking about here? They might just be snogging, on the other hand they could be...<snip>
You quoted photshop as being me
I certainly haven't compared that many amps side by side, but there are differences, otherwise a cheap NAD with enough power would rival a bryston or something gorgeous like a Karan.
But then again there are different techs, class A all the way to D then of course tubes being totally different in their distortion.
Can't say much else as Im back onto the kissing and .........Less hi-fi talk now off to the babes thread

Ooops - Epic fail trying to do multiple quotes.
Valve amps - don't get me started on them.
dont really give a **** if anyone believes me, in the bedroom with an old Samsung LCD the different cables make much less of a difference
