Guys,

Has anybody imported an amp from the States to save a bit of money?

I'm currently looking to get my hands on an Onkyo 606, which I can get through competitor (US) for $349 with free postage, or competitor (UK) for £399 (plus postage). Now I expect to get charged the VAT for it, but that would still only bring the price up to around £250.

Power-wise, it's switchable between 120-240v so no issue there.

So, has anybody had any success with stateside stuff, or would this be a PITA and end up not saving me any money?

Cheers

factor in the much higher shipping cost. i somehow doubt the free postage is international!

then add duty on top of the price, then add VAT on the lot. probably doesnt work out so cheap after that unfortunately.

Not really a good idea TBH, there's probably no warranty on it (they are usually only valid in the country you bought the item in) Think about getting it repaired as well (Onkyo dealers here may not want to know) I rate of exchange isn't in our favour currently & finally, there's the question of Import duty & VAT HMRC charge.

how do you get the £250 total from $350?

you think competitor are going to ship it to the UK for free? with the current crap exchange rates you're looking at £215 before VAT + Shipping costs so the amount you will actually save is peanuts and you will have zero warranty.

is this the TX-SR606?
if you do get it, let us know how it is as that's the one I'm looking at but probably not till the new year.
