Unfortunately the place I'm staying at does not have a tv aerial socket and the digital indoor aerial I've been making do with is frankly utterly rubbish.

So, please recommend me a replacement which will actually work!

Indoor aerial are rubbish even expensive ones.I always recommend installing a high gain outdoor aerial in your loft as its much better compared to expensive indoor active aerial. The real challenge is laying out the cables but if you dont mind just clipping the cables on the side of the wall and floors then its easy.

Not all of them are rubbish, it largely depends on the strength of the signal in your area (as well as the quality of the aerial of course).

Not sure what was being used, but the TV we had in the cottage we stayed in on holiday had an indoor aerial and received all the Freeview channels with no problem at all, the aerial was fairly small and sat next to the TV.

I live way out in the countryside of Northern Ireland and get a great signal using a mains powered indoor aerial from argos which sits on my window sill. The only downside is if it gets slightly stormy outside some channels are unwatchable. I am considering shifting the TV to another room which has an outlet for the aerial on the roof, but I like having the TV and 360 in my room for some late night gaming sessions...

Any recommendations on a specific model?

Installing an aerial in the loft is not an option as I'm living in the Mess at the moment!

Are you trying to watch freeview? try to check your signal reception quality here Postcode Checker
if it says " Overall Good reception " then you may be able to use a quality indoor aerial.Better visit or email the popular high street electronics specialist store and ask there tech for a recommendation.

Yep, freeview. Sometimes the signal's ok but for the majority of the time it's pants. This suggests to me that the actual tv signal in the area is fine (the previous place close by where I lived never had a problem but it did have a fixed roof aerial) and it's just the rubbish One For All thingy I'm using that's to blame.
