Tell me about 350z's....

I think you should look at an S3.

I have and I picky.... I only like the new shape which is too expensive :( The new shape S3 in white is like my ideal all round car if it was in budget...really like them.

If you really can't have the m3 get a 350z, elise/vx220 is to hardocre for everyday use if you ask me. I've always had a soft spot for the 350z since getting a student addiction for the need for speed underground demo and wasting hours trying to beat my mates times!

M3 is like £2500 to insure. Elise/Vx220 on backroads to work every day doesn't bother me.... I am 21, have no luggage, have no friends and barely drive the girlfriend about ;):D

Cool, wouldn't quote me so they've obviously changed their minds!

£500 vol excess lol, so with the compulsory excess you'll be paying what - the first £800 of any damage. Ouch. :p

With respect you've never driven one on the road so you dont know that. Have a chat with Sam. His opinions on these cars for daily use are very interesting. He's considering changing it.

Youve got a long way to go in making a choice on anything.....
You shouldnt even bother considering cars until youve driven them.

Have a day out, on real roads not tracks in a VX220 Turbo. They are brilliant cars, but after the Southampton meet, I would only have one as a toy car, not as a main car. Sam's is modified (lowered) and is a brilliant car but having spent the day getting in and out of his car and felt the roads in it I'm sure it's not great for an everyday car.

You may think it is (as Sam thought), but you'll soon realise it's not very good as an everyday car.

As Fox has said, drop Sam an email or something, and speak to him about the car's impracticality as an everyday one.

I would rather narrow the list down based on cars that I would be happy in and then work out how to drive them nearer the time. For example, I won't ever consider an MX5 as I just don't like them.... I have been in one and I am sure they would be great fun, but as I don't like them I don't want to consider one.

So with that in mind, I like the look and performance figures, youtube videos, styling and reviews on the cars in my list and then narrowing it down to say 5 best ones and then driving them. There is no point me driving a 350z if somebody is on here saying how unreliable they are as it saves me the effort!

As I said, test drives in these cars are hard to come by at my age? or that is what I have stuck in my head :)

R32 - I don't think I would like to move from a golf to a quicker one. I want something a bit different... I did look at the new Focus ST's which are quite nice....but it's still just a hothatch, I would hoping for a good all-round covertable or coupe ideally.

I'm suprised you suddenly want to become different, is it driving a Golf with Audi wheels on which has made you really wish you could stand out :D

:p I knew that was coming! I don't think you realise how much I want to change....but I want to do it right and not make the same mistake again!

Right, so the 350z is in the final list again then.... so any info on it? build quality? mpg? anything to watch out for?

I looked at 350z's in great depth before deciding to spend less money on a car and more money on other 'hobbies'.

From what I can see now the imports are still a bit cheaper by a few thousand and spec wise they are quite different. Having a budget of 14k means you can get a nice UK GT one with low-ish miles. I also rather like the Nismo Body kit but the ones I saw with it for sale were also packing nasty alloys and OTT stereo equipment. I am not aware of any major mechanical problems but the newer models have a higher reving engine with produces slightly more BHP at the cost of some torque but are still quicker, the interior has also been revised.

Imho they look much better than a 330ci or a Z4 and I always notice one when they drive past unlike the BMW's which tend to blend in. Whack a Nismo exhaust and they sound 10x better. A lot of people slated the interior but when I sat in one I was really impressed and could find nothing wrong with it and its a nice play to be. They are not up to BMW standards but they are superior to the VX220, Elise and DC5.

MPG wise it won't be anything special expect low 20's around town rising to high20's/low 30's in top gear. Tyres are about £110 a corner and last around 10k miles but it dpends on your driving style and what tyres you get. They also require high octane fuel.

Unfortunatly I did not have a chance to drive one but it does feel like a good quality product and I'd choose one over the other cars any day of the week.

Its difficult to say if its more 'flash' than the others though as different people see different traits as flashy. For example I know people who regards Audis as flash even if said car is a A3 1.6 purely because of the badge. Nismo up a 350z and one person will see it as a loud boy racers car and the other a tastfully modified sports car. I think they look stunning in blue though esp with the nismo kit on though I am not too keen on the rear bumper.

I had pretty much the same budget as you ( still have if I want to sacrifice other things) and I looked at this and thought it was the best all rounder for my needs. I liked the look of the M3 but found them the most expensive car to insure ever and the running costs made me wince a little.

I'd head over to here for more info.
