A TOFF student tried to recreate a scene from The Italian Job by driving a Mini UP a flight of steps — but it turned into the Italian bodge.

The Harrow-educated idiot drunkenly climbed into his new £10,000 car to attempt the stunt from the 1969 movie in which crooks drive down church steps in a getaway scene.

But the posh prat came a cropper in the silver vehicle, given to him the day before by his rich parents.

It piled into the steps of his digs at 30mph, causing the radiator to blow up, the two front tyres to burst and both airbags to explode.

Six security staff, two police cars and a helicopter were scrambled to arrest the 18-year-old for drink-driving at 1am. A second student escaped from the car at Bristol University’s Wills Hall.

Earlier the pair roared around the halls at up to 40mph, shrieking with laughter in a 20-minute rampage over pavements and lawns. They woke other students who were furious.

One said: “What a prat. He said he was out of his head and wanted to recreate the Italian Job. The car conked out and it’s in a right state. He made himself look an idiot. His parents had faces like thunder. Most people would love a car like that.”

The student spent a night in the cells. He was charged with drink-driving and released on Monday.

He has only been at the university a month and faces being kicked out.

A police spokesman said: “He tried to recreate the Italian Job — but in the film they don’t get caught.”

The movie starred Michael Caine in a plot to steal gold by causing a traffic jam in Turin.

Lived next to wills hall last year in my student accommodation. Can't say i'm that suprised, but how someone who is intelligent enough to get into higher education can do something so stupid is beyond me.

I think the people who allowed him in the university should realise their mistake and chuck him out.

Now I don't read newspapers but the way that article was written is just beyond me... Surely got to be a joke of some sort (don't care what drunk students get up to as long as no one gets hurt)

And most importantly, they drive dwon the steps not up.

A 1st with Hons in Idiocy to the Toff 'Tard.

An absolute pillock yes he was - but the fact he had rich parents and/or is posh is not really related to the story at all.

That was my first thought, I guess being drunk probably impaired his memory of the film. If he was going to try driving up then he'd probably have to go at a fair bit of an angle, from the article it sounds as if he piled into the steps head on. In fact all round it was just a complete bodged effort.

I dislike roughly 99% of the rah's that come out of Wills Hall and unfortunately live in an area saturated with them and their minis or land rovers. The cars which they insist on stopping in the middle of the road to talk to their friends on the pavement about how wasted they were last night and got it on with Jennifer Winchester-Chesterfield.

You should move to Bedminster, people are far more down to earth there. ;)

Pah, Will's hall gets such bad stick, its nowhere near as rahry as Churchill!

Saying that I did ask not to be in the Old Quad simply to avoid the Rahs.

I heard many a classic at Will's hall. Get this.

"You know whats the worst thing about having a chauffeur? He always tell daddy where I'm going :/"

So he had money, so what?

Ben M has agenda ;)

Should I feel dangerously out of the social loop for not hearing about this?

Totally off topic but seeing as the thread will draw in a few students: Anyone managed to split their Resnet connection through a hardware router? I’m using my laptop as a software NAT when I want to get on XBL (a step up from spoofing the mac address but still less then ideal), can anyone more clued up let me know which router / authentication method I should use?
