Disturbing films?

What the hell is this film: it that came out 2-3 years ago and features somebody driving somewhere, their their vehicle breaks down (so they are stranded) and they go and find some people who are living in the woods (maybe a small village) and they are like total lunatics (sort of like deliverance hillbillies) who are like having sex with animals etc and torturing them. Looks a bit like the The Hills Have Eyes but isn't. It was grossly disturbing from what you could see in the trailer (which was on the apple website 2-3 years ago). I can't for the life of me remember what it is called though.

Nope sorry, definitely not that film. Although the plot is identical.

I think the film was about one guy, not a group of people. He goes to a village for help because he is stranded and his car has broken down, and he ends up meeting a village full of nutters.

Calvaire?

I remember the original version of the Vanishing (Dutch/French co-production, 1988) disturbed me quite a lot. It won't be quite as effective if you've seen the awful American remake first.

Oh, and any of the Police Academy movies. Shudder.

"Guinea Pig: The Devil's Experiment" and "Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood". The other movies in the series lost the apathetic tone which makes these two entries so disturbing.

"August Underground's Mordum" - Very hard to watch, but that's also because it's not a very good movie and the actors do nothing but scream at eachother the whole time.

"Irreversible" - Great movie, disturbing for all the right reasons.

Jorg Buttgereit's "Nekromantik" and "Nekromantik 2" are also very disturbing - the climactic (in more ways than one) scenes are useful in clearing parties of people who have outstayed their welcome.

"Run and Kill" is also a very disturbing film, especially if you're a parent.

Lucifer Valentine's "Slaughtered Vomit Dolls" may scar you for life, though it's more of a subversion-seeking music video than a narrative film.

"Men Behind the Sun" is extremely disturbing, especially given the reality that it's based on.

"Cannibal Holocaust" has been mentioned previously, and I think it's a very powerful piece of work. It must be seen in its complete uncut form, including the animal killings, however much you may not like it.

I've seen a ton more disturbing stuff, but would need to get my collection out and start digging - which I can't be bothered to do right now. Hope these suggestions leads to some new territory for you.

The most disturbing film I've ever seen is "Threads" - it's docudrama type thing about nuclear war centered around some families in Sheffield. The effects are extremely poor, but my god, it'll have you wallowing in depression for days after. Brilliant film.

Suppose not, more psychologically disturbing than shock value. He should watch it anyway though ¬_¬

Salo - 120 days of sodom
Cannibal Holocaust (I wouldn't bother with cannibal ferox)
Last house on the left
Ichi the Killer (though this is more stylised - the previous films i've mentioned have more aesthetic realism)

"Run and Kill" is also a very disturbing film, especially if you're a parent.

Haha, I remember that one. Have you seen Red To Kill? The ending was so depressing it made me laugh.

I'm personally fed up with recommending films and music now. Though you should check out Philosophy of a Knife if you haven't done so.
