I've recently been listening to Seasick Steve - I Started Out With Nothing..

What a fantastic album :p
Makes me want to sit on the decking in a rocking chair with a jug o' beer and a dusty old guitar :D

I can't say I usually dabble with the blues though, so recommend me something similar :)

If you want to listen to some real blues then try this lot:

UK Blues, try John Mayall:

Blues Breakers - Eric Clapton on this one
A Hard Road - Pete Green on this one
Looking Back

US Blues, try Howlin Wolf

The Collection
London Sessions

Try B B King

Riding With The King - Eric Clapton on this one
Best Of

Try Muddy Waters:

Anthology

Try John Lee Hooker:

The Best of Friends

Hope that you try and enjoy some of these :)

Cheers :)

I've listened to a fair bit of Muddy Waters back when I was younger, pretty good stuff. I think the thing that makes Seasick Steve so good is the lyrics rather than the music.. it's like listening to a guy spinning yarns whilst he plays guitar :)

I wouldnt mind knowing of similar blues stuff that was done for the film Blues Brothers.

That wasn't really blues - it was soul & R&B with a bit of rock n roll thrown in.

The very original blues Brothers Band (before the film) did do old blues standards and rock them up a bit but the film detracted from that.

Get some Howlin' Wolf and Albert King on the go. That'd be a good start.

Or you could be lazy, get some Cream, Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, early Led Zeppelin and any White Stripes album. It's all good!

Roy Buchanan - One of the greatest blues guitarists to grace gods earth imo

Roy performing a cover of Hey Joe -

Also check out Danny Gatton too who is another exceptional blues player

Some great blues artists mentioned above. If you like Seasick Steve try The Black Keys, Junior Kimboro and Sweet Tea by Buddy Guy.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is blues? Hmmm, it seems categorising has changed...

Bessie Smith, BB King, Ma Rainy, WC Handy are all ones to check out. Some people may like to recommend Bob Dylan but I personally don't see him as Blues, more Country.

You must not forget Willie Dixon, one of the fathers of modern blues. His songs have been covered by many famous artists and bands.

Try “I Am The Blues”, on LP and out on CD tomorrow, I would also recommend “The Chess Box Set”.

If you want an overview of the genre get the “Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues” DVD box set, great viewing. You can get it for a bargain price at the moment.

:)

Recently I have been to see Joe Bonamassa and Walter Trout who are both worth a mention.
My favourite blues artist has to be Rory Gallagher who I saw countless times in the 70s.
