Is there an ATI equivalent to the 8800gt 512mb?

As title. I'm looking for a card thats got similar performance to the 8800gt 512mb. and was wondering what cards are made by ATI that are of similar performance. There appears to be a shortage of well priced s/h 8800gt 512mb cards atm and I'm now looking at brand new, but cost obviously comes into play here.
Any ideas?

It would have to be an HD4850. The HD4670 only has a 128-bit interface and wouldn`t cut it against the 8800GT.

The 4830 actually is closest but for £6 more you can get the even better 4850 lol. There are ones due in at under £100 VAT inc but the cheapest they have in is the £111 4830 and it would be madness to buy that when the Gainward 4850 is £117.

Was hoping to spend around about £55-£65 for a s/h 8800gt 512 inc p&p. Brand spankers (cheapest) from here are £88 inc vat for the Ocuk versh, followed by the XFX versh for £93 inc vat. I can see the s/h 8800gt cards drying up shortly which leaves the 4850 the only real viable alternative unfortunately.

I think the ATI 3870XT is about 10-15% slower than the 8800GT 512mb which might be worth looking at s/h. Other than that its probably the 4850.

I've got a factory overclocked 3850 from Gecube which is a touch below 8800GT performance-if you get a 3870 and clock it that should be there or thereabouts.

This shouldn't be too far off the 8800GT (although it won't match it). Do you mind me asking why you are after an ATI card? At the 8800GT's price point it is the best card...

You can pick up cheapo HD4670s for ?50-?60, these are more than good enough for 1280*1024 and lower.
Also these are a good price atm (Same as a 9600gso)

It depends on the Res, anything much over 1280*1024 = 4850

The only reason I'm asking if ati have a similar performing card is that the 8800gt cards are rather scarce atm, and I was wondering if there was an ati alternative that I could get instead for about the same dosh as a s/h 8800gt 512mb

2900xt is about the same performance as 8800gt, maybe a tad faster in some games.

Omg that card was £50 2 weeks ago. I bought a 3870 for £70 anyway at the time :S. Just get a 2nd hand 8800GT. it is the best option.

/\/\/\/\/\/\ The 3870 512mb also appear to be in short supply. Guess I'm just gonna have to wait and pounce on one or the other if/when one appears on the MM.

I've never understood these comments. As soon as a new gen of GPU comes out, people suddenly forget how the older cards performed. 1280x1024 is pretty low res, a 3870/8800GT can cope with games at up to 1920x1200.

But now that they're old tech, they suddenly slow down? I've been playing all my games at 1920x1200 for almost 1.5 years now, using a 2900, 3870X2, 4850 and 4850 crossfire.

I've upgraded yeah, but the games I played on my 2900 at 1920x1200 are all fairly recent ones, so a 3870/8800GT will play most recent games at 1920x1200 with some AA and AF too.

If your budget only permits you to buying a 3870 or 8800GT, they'll be fine, but if you can afford it, you should try to get a 4830 or a 4850, it'll last you a lot longer.

I picked up a 3850 new with 2 games from OCUK in the sale for £44, plays everything i want at decent fps at 1280x1024. The fact i cant play crysis at high, doesnt bug me, it still looks great at medium. So all in all I got a total bargain which i am very pleased with. I'm glad my dad didnt let me put in a 3850 when i first built my PC when it was £110.

im playing all the top games on my 2900xt , and its still got some life in it. i agree with people being snobbish reg older cards.

developers in general develop games aimed at mainstream tech not high end.

Generally old cards have a lot of life left in them, but there seems to be a few people who insist that cards instantly become crap after new ones are released.

Then you've got the people who just plain don't know what they're on about. The amount of times I've seen people say, if you're playing at 1680+ then don't get anything lower than a 4870, below 1680 get a 4850. Those type of comments make me cringe, have they not seen the benchmarks that show a 4850 can even hold its own at 2560x1600?

They can't be going from user experience, otherwise they'd know the cards are far more capable, and they can't be going from reviews and benchmarks, so they must just be making these number up?
