Delonghi Oil Filled Radiators

does anybody know what kind of power consumption the oil filled radiators use on a low setting? if say it was a 2kw unit

I'm trying to work out how much it would cost to run one

Mine is 1Kw on low....1.5 on med and 2KW on high, but the thermostat turns on/off once it's heated, so this is dependant on the size of the heater, and the outside temp.

Mine usually takes about 30mins to get up to temp (by this, I mean the oil inside has heated sufficiently), then turns on/off every 10mins or so.

So for 2KW, at 20 hours a month at 12p per KwH - it will cost you £4.80 for the month roughly.

As i said above, ours was on for about 70-75 hours (at 2Kw) in Jan last year - It increased our bill by about £20 (for that month alaone) - with another £30 for Feb and Mar.

Unless you are a child or aged over 70 why do you need one of these, bunch of fairies.

Oh yeah and Credit Crunch

I don't have central heating and the only heat source I have is the fire in the front room and a calor gas heater in the back room ,upstairs gets pretty cold

It's a good idea to inspect the oil rads for rust/damage every so often. If they pop (rare but does happen occasionally), they can squirt hot oil everywhere - you don't want to be in the way when that happens and the cleanup is hellish.

Gas Heater in a sealed environment of the home? Hmm not something I'd do for many reasons.

Nothing whatsoever wrong with this.

Most appliances will be under 6.5kw and if under 7kw you need no flue.

Whats the heat input on them delonghi lpg heaters?

You must have a vent in the room minimum 50cm2 for anything up to 1.8kw input then 27.5cm2 extra for each kw it exceeds the 1.8kw

Strangely, that's not really reassuring me.

heh, I can't remember the last time (if any) I heard of somebody dieing because of CM poisoning from portable gas heater

They have to meet gas safety standards just like all other gas appliances

Get a sleeping bag then.

nah, I would find it too difficult to sit at my pc if I was wrapped in a sleeping bag

I've been running one overnight in a not very well insulated conservatory/dining area for a couple of years now between about September and March. Used a fairly low setting just to keep the icy chill off the room. Not doing it this year. Very expensive - several hundred pounds per year I suspect.

Yeah, I'll just walk into my freezing cold unheated kitchen in the morning in a sleeping bag.

Well done, genius.

Use a 3KW fan heater to VERY quickly take the chill off the room, but don't leave it running for too long as it gets expensive. A fan heater with a built in thermostat is a good investment.
