Hi guys
I am in the process of replacing the stock fan on my 4850, but I think the fan control ie the three pin plug is soldered into the card, making it impossible to remove the fan.
Is this a standard practice because I havent read it anywhere that this was even a possibilty?

The three pin plug powers the fan and can be removed. You can connect the Vortexx up to a fan controller or a molex.

I have the sapphire 4850 toxic & that just had a standard connector. I've used sapphire cards exclusively for a few years now, never seen one thats had the fan soldered on though, odd.

any chance of some pics???

Sorry Guys, there may be some slight confusion.
Basically the cable from the fan to the card, (which must be the power) is soldered onto the card. So where the fan connector plugs into the card, this is soldered on and cant be unplugged. At the moment I cant take my fan off fully because I dont have a screwdriver small enough to take out the screws surrounding the gpu chip
So I guess what I am saying is, when all the screws are out, will it still be tethered by the power lead, or can that come out from the fan itself?

I shall try tomorrow lol, when I find my camera. So should the fan power lead come off at the card, or from the fan? Because if its from the card I am stuffed!

I`m pleased the stock fans and cooler are good with my Xpertvision 4870 as there is a sticker over one of the legs of the supporting flange on the back of the card "Warranty void if removed yada yada".

Soldering plugs into sockets eh? That`s an extra production task after assembly, not normal for the Chinese? ;)

They must have realized they can save a lot of money, by simply making it obvious that the cooler has been replaced, therefore they can say the warranty is void lol.

Ok guys, this problem has been sorted. It was basically my stupidty, belive me it knows no bounds.
So if you are willing to help again, could someone direct me to a screwdriver on a uk website, that would take out the really shallow four screws that surround the actual chip. I have gone out and bought a couple of screwdrivers, but the screws are so shallow. Not after a kit, just a single screwdriver!
Thanks in advance guys
