It's ok if you are rich ....

All the profits go back to shareholder and finding more oil.

If you think these levels of profit are from the 1p per litre profit they make on fuel then you are clearly deluded. There is no bank account that the profits just sit in.

indeed.....

Village of 50 - 100 ppl

Theres one well from which everyone gets their drinking water supply.

Richest person in the village is they who own the well. Can pretty much charge whatever they like and rest of the village *has* to pay even village council elders.

Basically they are in a position to bleed that small community dry :)

They say if they put their prices down they have to sack some of the water carriers employed by the company. (of course the person starts up a company because that way they will be able to take advantage of tax loopholes and dodge responsibility if someone suffers from a disease that was caused by the impurities in the water)

So the village can do nothing. The company doesnt care as that person has long ago made enough money to live where they like so it isnt their home.

Necessities in life should not be ransomed off to the highest bidder.
Silly analogy, if it was an oil company they would be looking for the next source of water before the current well runs dry. They don't set the price of the water either.

I don't remember people bitching about supermarkets for making profit on food? or should they supply food without making profit too? Seriously what are most people on -do they expect companies to invest billions just to give them something at cost?

I read somewhere that oil companies make in the region of $30 to $40 a barrel which isnt a lot but only when you think the world consumes around 80million barrels a day, you can see where this large figures come from. They make money from quanity not because they make loads off the barrel

Not even near that much on most projects. Remember it's the countries who actually own the oil.

It isn't the oil companies we should complain at really imo, they don't make a massive % profit but I think I am correct in saying they also get out of paying some of the tax.

It is OPEC who control the oil supply, if it was a free market more oil would be produced the more expensive it is but opec control output which stops this so as soon as demand increases so does the price.

also if the government really cared 70% of petrol wouldn't be tax.

well maybe if bread doubles in price in every supermarket they would? e.g. bad crop yield that year so price high..next year no such problem but same high prices.

I'm sorry but retail petrol is not a 'necessity to stay alive'.

F U E L is used in sooo mannnnnnnnnnnny things.. making of bread for instance where did i mention petrol?

im surprised people are not seeing the obvious domino effect the drama happening in oil has on other products. Maybe they are and are just being sarcastic *******

It's not the oil companies fault that prices have gone up though.

In some countrys the International oil companys make the same profit on $30/bbl as $147/bbl prices

These threads always amaze me. How the hell has the goverment put such a spin on it, that people actually believe it's the petrol/utility companys fault. They make such a tiny fraction of there profits for domestic uk supply.

No wonder this goverment has been in power over 10 years, when they can so easily brain wash the public as few people have a clue.

I dont think its just a lack of education. You look around and you see people becoming dumber and dumber with every generation as lives get easyer and people are just happy to accept things because its easyer then to question it.

But the education system is totaly stupid now, ive yet to have a single physics teacher who can do the subject. I kid you not i ahve been through 4 of them and none of them can do the A level questions, even though they teach it. In class you do a question and you ask if its right and my teacher just starts to tremble when she relises she doesn't have the mark scheme. God damn stupid! I taught her the sodding speed of light as well in year 10!

The problem is lack of education, it's not like any of this stuff is taught at school.

ahhh but can you find the power series of "e" ... thats gota be useful somewhere right?

Yes when you'r Sir Evelyn De Rothschild you can just get up and walk out of an interview

The BBC journalist seems very intimidated but doesn't hesitate to grovel before his supreme illuminati overlord.

The BBC journalist seems very intimidate by him as well but also grovels before his overlord master.

I thought initially that you meant he'd simply left the interview before its conclusion but no, the journalist brought it to a close and Sir Evelyn De Rothschild shook his hand and left. There was no fit of pique, nothing to suggest that there was anything out of the ordinary there except that the interviewer made a comment about him leaving - that could simply be down to a misunderstanding of protocol in that most interviewees will wait until the next segment of the programme before moving off but frankly if I'm done with an interview I'd expect to be able to leave too.
