Love my PS3... hate the controllers!

I prefer the buttons on the DS3 but the 360 pad fits better in my hands. Only if you could cross breed them for the ultimate controller.

They got rid of the d-pad!? The only indisputable good thing about the DS3 and they got rid of it. Madness.

What i don't get about the DS3 is, clearly swapping the d-pad with the left joystick would have been a huge improvement, why didn't they at least do that?

Would be quite hard (although not impossible for a top modder) to make the DS3 D-pad fit the 360 shell, no?

Jumping between Mirror's Edge on the PS3 and 360 clearly demonstrates how crap the Six Axis analogue sticks are. I can just about handle the left stick being in the wrong place (swap the d-pad and analogue stick around Sony!), but the huge dead zone and lack of responsivness is shocking.

I prefer the DS3 simply because ive been using the style for so god dam long. This outweighs the slight improvement of ergonomics on the 360 pad. I never get any sort of aches, cramps etc. I used to get problems with the 360 pad as my fingers would ache after prolonged use as they kinda cramp and rub on the underside. I hate footy games with the 360 pad as it feels clunky and the LB & RB buttons arent accessible enough. I love it for FPS and car games!

i'm a big d-pad fan, so i prefer the d-pad being in that position

it hurts my hands using it for pro evo on the 360...

both companys should release alternative controllers with the d-pad and analogue switched over

so people had the choice depending on the game they were playing

I agree totally about the d-pad and it being nice to have it in the more natural position. I'll always pick the DS3 for PES etc. My main gripe is that most games these days only use the d-pad for quick swapping items/weapons, if that, and that controlling you character/vehicle is done via analogue - this is when the dual shock placement really bugs me. Either way, there's no excuse for the lack of responsiveness.

I'd certainly buy d-pad specific pads for both consoles.

No controller is perfect, but like many, I grew up on PS controllers, but they've always been so poor ergonomically, as with a lot of Sony stuff, it's all form over function, the PSP is criminally bad for ergo's..

The 360 is much more function over form, it will never look as 'good' as Sony's controllers, but they just work, playing for hours is much more comfortable, not entirely pain free of course.

The DS3 was a step forwards, the analogue control seems improved, but the poor ergo's remain.. I think when people say the PS pads are better, they really mean they are just so used to them, anything that doesn't contort your hands badly feels terrible ;)

Saying all that, the PS controllers are easy to get used to, and apart from the rubbish triggers, have never angered me into not using them!..

Horses for courses, but I think there is a very good case to say that the 360 controllers are a better ergonomic design.

I grew up on the PS controllers too, I got an Xbox though and have never looked back, PS controllers just don't compare.

Don't know what you mean about the 360 pad not looking the part though, I think it looks nicer and more clean than the PS3 controller which looks crowded, the green light is also a nice touch.

i like the ps pads, to me they are comfortable, buttons are well placed, the buttons are good and the dpad is good. my only gripe is that the analogue stick isn't amazing, though i don't think its bad... just not as good as the 360 analogue

It's one of the main things that is stopping me getting a PS3. My hands hurt after playing with a PS3 controller for more than 5 minutes :(

Same :(

Was thinking of trying to mod one myself, but it's a lot of effort all for a few games :(

Wonder if I could give it to a college for a project?

I have never really had trouble with the ps3 pad until the motorstorm pacific rift demo,

Have you tried playing that? using L2 to break and trying to steer with the left analog stick, It causes major cramps

I get on with both controller (I normally play games for long stretches when I get the chance and don't get no arm ache etc).

The only flaw with the PS3 controller for me is that the triggers don't have that much travel on them in some games). Having said that most games avoid the Triggers as fire (from what I have noticed).

The Major flaw on the 360 is the dpad. Pro Evo (A game designed from the ground up for digital controls) is terrible with d-pad. Every single beat em up on 360, hard to pull of combos, juggles, advanced moves.

A lot od fans dismiss miss with "OMG no one uses dpad), but tbh IN a lot of games it is change weapon/item these days (God knows how many times I have picked wrong weapon etc).

Fable 2 is the worst example recently. You rely on the d-pad a lot for replenishing energy in fights and doing expressions. So many time you do the wrong one, I have started to use the manual method using RB as the d-pad presses the wrong selection too often.

Apart from that I switch between he 2 happily and don't have no problems.

Why doesn't a third party make a controller where you can actially swap the positions of the left anologue stick and d-pad? IMO that would be almost perfect as then it would suit everyone.

Agreed about the Dpad but I'd call it the only flaw rather than a major flaw? The 360 controller is pretty much perfect and I can certainly live with the Dpad but it'd be nice if it was more precise.

Sony pads get uncomfortable quite quickly, that's what I'd call a major flaw... as it's a major reason for me not buying a PS2 or PS3.

That Nyko pad seems ok, but looks like it uses it's own USB receiver instead of the internal Bluetooth which is a bit silly...

Bring back the Boomerang Sony!! :(

Dont really have a problem with either controller.

The D pad on the 360 controller is the worst in the entire universe though.

Must admit, I hate the PS3 controller especially for racing games. I tend now only to buy games for the PS3 if they are exclusives or my mates (for whatever reason) had bought them on PS3 and I wanted to play online with them.

It's a shame, I like the PS3 but the controller kills my hands after a short while.

Yeah i hate the controlers of play stations, always loved xbox ones. When i switched from my ps2, which used to give me blisters, to my xbox it was sooo comfy. The 360 one they did away with those stupid black and white buttons and is pretty damn comfy now. Cant say i ever got the horrible cramps from the ps2 controls andn well taht ps3 one looks just stupid.

Seems like ps3 really went for looks and not functionality.
