Do people not understand that not all first person games are first person shooters?

The elder scrolls series have been referred to as 'first-person role playing games' for years now. I've never heard of the term 'first-person style' until today.

but yeah its easier i guess and avoids misunderstandings just using FPRPG
 
I find it interesting that wikipedia defines Mirrors Edge genre as:

Genre(s): Action Adventure (First Person)

Hah! See it isn't a FPS! The wiki never lies.

No it doesn't say that, you're seeing what you want to see and it's annoying.

It does say that to the right where is says Genre for (nearly) every game on Wikipedia.

And if FPS stands for first person style then first person shooters would be FPSS and they aren't.

I agree with the OP to an extent. The game isn't getting bad press because of these people. If they had read reviews or previews they would have known what the game was like.

The problem arises when reviewers share this opinion.

it was me who said FPS = first person stylee :p

so if theres gonna be a hangin...you should hang the right man :p

makes more sense to do smt like

FPS
FPRPG
FPA (Adventure e.g. Mirrors edge?)
FP RTS
etc etc

bah i dunno lots of games borrow from different styles anyway
 
First person style? What a load of old cobblers.

FPS stands for First Person Shooter, end of.

Edit: ah ha! it was Surfer's fault, hang him!
 
Hmm it's not about black and white definitions of what an FPS is. It's that people are rating the games badly because they're not twitchy shooters even though they are not supposed to be in the first place.
