Sitting here eating this meal before i head off to the gym @ 7pm.
Is this a good enough meal before a workout?
This is my first time at the gym so dont really want to work intensively.

Just don't eat too much, you don't want to exercise on a full stomach (something I forgot at the weekend and was promptly sick halfway though a 14k).

Eat protein after you exercise if you're looking to build up muscle. Eat something sugary before you exercise purely for energy.

I think. :p

Then why bother? Is this like the "I don't want to get too big" excuse?
Beans on toast will be fine if you are going to fanny about.

Because not everyone wants to be a huge hulking mass?

You do realise you can work out to a point and stop yourself growing because you like how you look at that point...don't you?

and you become a hulking mass from a couple of non intensive workouts?

My advice is to not eat anything at least an hour before training. With beans on toast I'd say two. It's actually not a bad pre-workout meal to be getting down you. But something like a bowl of porridge would probably be better.

Eat something asap after your training too, tuna pasta for carbs and protein will be a safe bet, but don't go mad on the portions.

Oh, and to all you 'hardcore mofos' this is his first time at the gym, he's getting familiar with the equipment and used to the envireoment. Stop being asses :) None of you walked into the gym for the first time and started smashing clean and heaves until you vomited pure testosterone.

Good luck and enjoy the gym!
Ant

Not really.. I heard FF eats an entire cow for brunch.

Those rumours may be true ;)

Even its penis?

What sort of cows do you eat?!!!

He is French, so of course he does.

G0t envy?! :p ;)

I'd stick to some decent carbs before a workout. I tend to have a banana or a small bowl of porridge about 30-45 mins before and no sooner as I don't want all the blood to be around my stomach, I need it to get to my muscles.

However I'd have a relatively low carb (though this is just my preference) but reasonably calorific meal/snack with a high protein content after your work out, and I do mean literally within half an hour as your body will start to breakdown that hard earned muscle.

Beans on toast is a great meal to have prior to going to the gym if you are trying to lose weight or simply going for definition. Used to do it myself. However, I would suppliment it with a home -made protein shake as well.
