Just because the Daily Mail says it doesn't make it true. The vast - vast - majority of tax money goes on schools, hospitals, police, military (whether you think that's a good thing or not is up to you), services etc. I don't know how many families in the UK have 12 kids and can't be arsed to work, but I'll bet it's such an infinitesimal proportion that it's a complete non-issue.

The last time I looked in to it 47% of government spend was on "Social Protection", effectively benefits. However you have to remember that "benefits" is quite an all encompassing term and means everything from JSA to State Pension to Tax Credits.

I do not read the daily mail, I speak from what I see.

What I am trying to get at here is I am strongly against wealth distribution when it goes to the wrong people. In the UK all I see is scum bags getting my hard earned money. That is completely unacceptable.

I do not however mind if my money was to go to those who REALLY need it, not I've got 12 kids and cant be ****ed to work. Genuine people who are having a hard time in life. Unfortunately with all these schemes it doesn't go like that, it usually becomes scum taking advantage of the system like in England.

If obama can promise me that my money will go to those really in need of it, sure I don't mind helping a little. But the level at which it is done in the UK is amazingly disrespectful.

I also dont want to see this getting carried away with, i.e Vouchers for this, vouchers for that, this insurance, that insurance, this benefit, that benefit. A strict and monitored system needs to be setup and there needs to be very little burden on the tax payer. We already do our bit but removing the incentive for hard work is not the way to go.

Undoubtedly some money is paid out to the "undeserving poor" and even criminal elements but I honestly believe the majority goes to people in real need. We musn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

NHS: I can't imagine living in a country without the NHS. The thought of people dying or financially crippling themselves and their family for health care provision is obscene. Obviously not every condition can be treated by the NHS with the latest and best treatments - it is just too expensive. There must necessarily be some rationing, and some room for luxury treatments being chargeable through the private sector and insurance. I have no problem with paying higher levels of tax so that anyone in my country (including me) gets decent medical care without reference to income.

Those who have jobs get medical insurance heavily subsidized. Our quality of care is much better then the NHS, but thats because we get more money into it.

Private health is another incentive to work hard, something else obama wants to destroy.

And there are a lot of hospitals which serve low income people often for free. Grady Memorial Hospital is an example of one in atlanta.

Thats not the point, they are taking money of people who have got to where they have. They should not be punishing the rich. It is just ridiculous to tax people more because they earn more. OH LOOK I DID WELL IN LIFE, TIME TO GET PUNISHED.

So would you agree that the harder you work, the more you earn, the LESS taxes you pay?

You think that is how it should work ?

You think the People who work hard deserve to be punished for doing so?

I agree with Ken, I think hard work should be rewarded.

Yes, rewarded with your wages.

If the harder you work, the less taxes you pay then what will you have?

A school teacher working 40 hours week and pay 40% tax where a coporation earning $1 billion a day pays 5% tax? Is that how it should work?

At last! You've got it!

No wonder your housing market blew up, how about tax the guy sweeping the floor 100%, but the guy that does nothing sitting in the coffee 0% ?

The school teacher no longer be able to keep up with the repayments !

I am so going to look forward to Obama winning, in the words of John Dorian - In your face ! :D

Heard an american on the radio this morning being interviewed.

"His middle name is Hussein! To me, that makes him an arab. This means he is on their side. against us and our country."

Crazy.

Excuse me? I pay full rent, i have 3 other house mates. Dont go sticking your head in where it doesn't belong.

You felt perfectly confident boasting about it in motors, so why can't I bring it up now?

I've not taken a single penny from my parents, I have paid all my education expenses, housing, food, car everything. Not even a text book was bought for me so I suggest you think before you jump to assumptions.

Since.. when? When did you start funding yourself? How are you as a full time student studying to be a Pharmacist able to rent a $800,000 house with 3 other people and run a 328i with a student job?

At last! You've got it!

Oh great, a complete ridiculous unworkable tax system which could only be concived by a person who has no grasp of how it all works, no wonder your voting McCain.
Gonna get expensive when McCain has to increase the defense budget, but all those people unemployed, can't tax them. Can't let them starve either...humm I wonder whole else he could tax, oh yeah the working ones. Or you could have Obama, who, doesn't want to do that 'war' thing.
