Couple of days old but, Brand New MK5 R32 for under £17k.

having just read some of the linkbacks i was getting to that link, i think it was a one day only thing? could be wrong though

A year ago, a VW dealership were trying to sell me a year old R32 for £25k. That's a serious drop in value.

24hours at a single dealer on the 29th october, wonder why!

EDIT: Seems it was at all dealers, but at the end of the month, no suprise.

700 unregistered...wow talk about over estimating sales figures!

PH has a few slightly used bargains fully specced as well. The high tax and financial woes are the cause for this.

Shows you how bad the market is for big(ger) engined cars out there.

Unfortunately, the Mk5 R32 has suffered more than most from this. It is very thirsty for the performance it offers, falls into band G tax bracket and only got average write ups from the motoring press when it was launched.

List price for a fully specced one is the wrong side of £30k, and the car doesn't have the badge kudos to justify that kind of money. I'm a huge Golf fan, but I wouldn't spend £30k on one.

My local dealer has a few 12-18 month old cars with all the toys (DSG, leather Recaros) going for around £17k- £18k. Shudder to think what the poor guys part-exing them in must have got... they've basically lost 50% of the value in the first year.

Same thing is happening to the GTi, to a lesser extent. Bizarrely, the most desirable golf in terms of depreciation these days is the 170bhp TDI.

That is not cheap for a 6 year old Ford Focus which has a 0-60 time, unmodified, in the 6's.

The Focus RS was a limited edition, similar to the MK4 Golf R32. They will always attract the Ford/VW car nuts, so will always have a market. Secondhand values of both cars have stablised at around £10k-£12k for some time now. I reckon that either one is a sensible place to put your money at the moment if you're a petrolhead - unless you do intergalactic mileage in it , the car won't depreciate that much more.

If you have nothing to sell I have personally not known of a better time to be buying a new or nearly new car as the market is pretty much dead and the stock is filling up everywhere. I suspect in December there will be some truly astonishing deals. I got an invite to Audi Satfford in the post because I am 'special' it tells me (just like the other 8 million they probably sent out) offering to give me top dollar for my motor if I buy a new one. I somehow doubt it when I pitch up in an RS4........"Computer says no".

I must admit the RS is over priced, but it does have some 'legacy' behind it to hold residules abit better.

I would'nt buy one tho.

I had a letter from Plymouth Lexus explaining how there has never been a better time to move from a German brand, and apparently they have some amazing deals on Pre-Owned Lexus which they'd be glad to lend me for a weekend.

Got desperation?
