looking for a gaming graphics card on a tight budget of a bout 80.00

prefer nvidia was lookin at 8800 series but not sure

i curently have 8800gts 640mb in my p5n-e sli pc and this graphics card would be for gaming and internet surfing on my gigabtye p35 s3g

any one got anything they recommend

was looking for 512mb but not sure

i play world of warcraft/cod4/doom3/day of defeat source/ crysis and farcry 2
 
tbh i'd say save up some more money.

The difference between what you have and an 8800gt really isn't drastic enough to bother. I'd say look towards picking up a 2nd hand 4870 for £100 or so in a few months time and notice a far far more dramatic difference.

Speaking from experience btw, i went 8800gts 320mb > 8800gts 640mb > 8800gt 512mb. All much the same really and all easily capable of running all games well except crysis , certainly the latter 2.
 
1GB 4670 PCS

Hi,

I have just purchased the ATI HD 1GB 4670 card off this site. I havent recieved it as of yet but for £80 delivered.

All the reviews I read on it are excellent too, stating the only cons are not being able to overclock it.

I think its not a bad choice for the price.

Anyway thats my opinion and suggestion to you :-)

I see the above cards are Nvidia. The only thing I see thats better on them is the 256bit mem interface. Otherwise the one I suggested has higher speeds (750Mhz clock and 1750Mhz mem) on the ATI card with 1GB onboard mem too. Although it is 128bit mem interface (If that makes much difference?)

I noticed another thing. The ATI card has 320 Streaming Processors and the Nvidia less than half of that at 112?

Can someone educate me on which card is the better one for gaming? Im under the influence that the ATI card is more superior.

b grade are usually just missing a few parts, i got a bgrade motherboard and it was just the board without any cables or drivers
 
Bugger, the B-grade 4850 went out of stock this morning, just before I was leaving for the shop. I was just making up my shopping list (the card, a cooler, another HDD, some headphones and the almost inevitable impulse buy once I was in the shop) and there it was, gone. The site reported 10+ in stock in the early hours of the morning. Now I'll get some headphones in town rather than making the trip to OcUK.

I can't see any reason why you'd match a 4670 with 1gig of memory.

The standard 512 4670 is £60 ish, or £40 second hand (and only a few months old), so why you'd pay £80 for 1gig is totally beyond me :confused:

Depends where you go. A trade-in shop near me sells used 8800GT 512MB cards for £110. I could probably name them, as they obviously aren't really a competitor :)

It's a common way to sell stuff. Bigger numbers = more sales. Many people will assume bignumbers=high performance. Few people would know that in some circumstances, like this one, it's of no practical use. That requires quite specialised knowledge (or looking at a number of reviews).

Not a bad choice, but not a good one.

A 512MB 4670 would give the same performance in any games that could be played with either 4670. If you jack eye candy up enough for the 1GB to have an effect, the game will be unplayable on both cards anyway.

A 512MB 8800GT wouldn't be much more than £80 and would be quite a bit better than a 4670.

It makes a very large difference in memory performance and more than offsets any difference in memory speed. A road will do as an analogy. On one road, cars can travel at 70mph on a road with 2 lanes. On the other road, cars can travel at 60mph on a road with 4 lanes. The second road can shift far more cars per hour than the first.

Processor speeds are only directly relevant if you are comparing the same model of processor.

You're under the wrong influence.

The 4670 is a decent midrange card and the 512MB one is good value for money, but an 8800GT is better.
 
As said either 8800GT 512Mb or a little extra for the 4850. The new 4830 is supposed to be around 80 but at its current price it's not worth getting.

Both brands have really good bang for buck cards.
