Who is going to use these NXE features?

I have a launch day console with the 20gb hard drive, it's drive is insanely noisy, so I'd like to use the install feature.

If I got the 120gb hard drive, can I easily transfer stuff over to the new one without needing a second console, or is that impossible?
Then in the future, should my current xbox die, is it possible to buy the elite version (well, with hdmi connector - do I get to keep optical audio?) without hard drive, just basic console unit?

Core units have HDMI too, and you can use optical out with HDMI using an adapter/modifying cables.

I'll definitely be installing a few games to the hard drive just to get rid of the drive noise :)

As for avatars i'll create a very generic one but thats it, even in games like Rock Band i don't go overboard on dressing my characters i just create a jeans and tshirt character (modeled on me minus the new beer gut of course lol)

Quite funny seeing avatars being praised by a few users that slagged off Home for it! lol. The NXE looks v.good imo, the interface looks so much better! If my god dam Elite ever turns up from my mobile package then ill be able to use the install feature a lot more! I cant see it being that handy for 20Gb owners considering Ive filled most of the harddrive on hardly anything really.

I think I will reserve my judgement of the whole NXE thing until i've tried it. I also have a 'launch' xbox and the copy to hdd feature for me wont be much use as my fans seem to be on 100% all the time, and sounds like a 747 on take off :) because of that I can't even tell if I have a noisy drive or not?

My launch console was the same with the fans. I could not handle it at all. MS accepted that it was faulty and I got a repair.

I have a launch xbox and thought the same, the drive not spinning makes a huge difference to the noise of the thing.

Home and Avatars/Mii's are two quite different things.

One is basically a 3D gamer identity the other a virtual home.

Avatars are in Home.

No they ripped off second life ;)

Its not really a rip-off though, its concentrated more towards multiplayer gaming intergration, rather than socialisation, RL, etc, the two essentially follow different themes. Its not like MS ripping off Mii's for example.

HD installs only and if it is quiet enough may start buying some games for it again as not used it since last xmas as its way too noisy now. Mid 2006 model with the Delta Fans & Hitachi Drive which is the loudest combination possible known to man since the universe began!!

Even on the dash its noisy but found a cupboard in my PC desk which makes it harder to hear as long as the DVD drive is not spinning up. If it is then the noise is sickening to me as in I feel pretty ill after about 10 mins as its a deafening whine. Can even hear it over very loud sound!!

Hope this hasn't been posted but here's a link to IGN's install and noise comparison video. I'm absolutely stunned by how quiet it is after the install in the vid, I had no idea that the majority of the noise was only down to the drive and not so much the delta fans

I knew that the drive was bad but I thought it was just as much a case of the delta fans and that the install wouldn't make it as quiet as it seems to be in that vid.
