Hi, I am going to update my graphics card, at the moment I have a 8600GT, and I was thinking of either :

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-177-AS

or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

My system specs :

CPU - E6550
MOBO - ASRock ConRoe1333-eSATA2
Ram - 2GB
PSU - 650w
Case - Soprano Vx

First of, would the 8800GT / 9800GTX fit into that case?

And are those graphics cards compatible with my motherboard?

And also, is 650w enough to run everything?

thanks,

I don't know if those cards will fit in your case, but they are compatible with your motherboard.
A 650W PSU should be enough to power that rig very easily, but it really depends on how reliable it is. What brand is it?

Have you looked at the ATI HD 4850 cards? They sell for around £120 and they are excellent cards, definitely worth including in your choices.

You need to delete the link to your case in your post. You are not allowed to post competitor links on these forums.

o sorry :(

Do you think the 4850 would fit in the case?

And what kind of fps would I be getting with the 4850 in call of duty 4, compared to the 8800GT, more fps?

I wasn't too sure what to write down from my PSU, but I got :

EZ Cool ATX 650 JSP 650w

is that a good enough psu for the cards?

And sorry for that link, deleted now ^^

thanks,

anything you value shouldnt be run by a budget psu

go for a corsair or similar then get a 4850

take a look at the buyers guide in my sig for some more useful advice

To be honest that PSU is near junk. I just found one on a competitor at £24.99 and it has just 18A on a single 12V rail. What that means is it should be considered a 250W power supply never mind the 650W rating. It is truely shocking and the worst I have ever seen. (edit... well in recent years anyway)

You need to buy a new PSU , preferable Antec, Enermax, Corsair etc .. 400-450W would be fine for you system with a 4850 in.

Expect to pay approx £10 per 100W to get reasonable quality

Yeah I'd definitely get rid of that PSU. Corsair HX 520W Modular would be a good choice.

The 4850 should fit into your case OK, but to be sure I would measure the inside of the case where the 4850 will go and also get the measurements of the 4850 graphics card.

With a 4850 you should be able to play Call of duty 4 on maximum settings with AA/AF no problems at all.

Gah, that's the exact PSU I'm using lol. Looks like I need to invest in a new one, although I have to say I've never experienced any problems with that PSU so far (touch wood) and I've had it since February. I was a bit low on money at the time I bought it, saw it and decided I mayaswell buy it, also I didn't know much about PSU's at the time (and I still don't know that much now tbh).

That's the trouble with the labeling of PSU's. There is no real standard.

The modern PC uses nearly all of it's power on the +12V connections a more realistic output is the Ampage at 12V X 12. In this case 18*12 = 216W ...

The system in you sig should use less than 200W so all is well until you upgrade.

As a comparison the corsiar VX 450 has 396W of 12V goodness and the HX620 has 600W @ 12V.... Three times the Cheap 650W rating!

Good luck with your PSU ..... you don't need to spend a fortune on a better one with huge wattage. Just get a decent spec medium wattage.

How often do you upgrade?

if you plan on going 4870x2 or 58xx in a 1 or 2 years then maybe think about getting a decent 6xx or 7xx watt PSU... you dont wanna have to buy everything new next time... but the choice is yours.

I don't upgrade my PC that often, I hardly ever have the money to upgrade, but if I was going to upgrade again I would just buy a whole new system to be honest.
