Currently running a OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Platinum Revision 2 XTC, I was hoping to get some opinions on whether or not to upgrade to 4gb.

I'm running XP and have no intentions of going to Vista yet, so i am aware that only 3.2gb of the 4 will be usable (does this have any other implications? like trouble overclocking?)

I mostly play CSS, Warhammer Online, Crysis, Far-Cry2 etc. In some games i seem to get a lot of hardrive activity, would getting more ram maybe help this, especially getting this in warhammer.

I currently have my cpu overclocked to 3ghz (e2160) will changing to this kit for example cause any problems?

dont really want to spend anymore than that (£70)

Any advice would be of help :)

the amount of usable ram depends on many factors, you may get more or less than 3.2gb :). as for overclocking for the most part is shouldnt hurt your current oc, so long as you get sticks known to work in your board (if you go 2*2gb) or your willing to raise the northbridge votlage / slack timings a bit for 4*1gb sticks.

if you are noticing a lot of disk thrash the first thing to try would be a defrag to see if that helps you out much and make sure the disk isnt totally full (a few gb free is wise for pagefile etc), if not more ram should work well.

probably irrelevant now as I imagine you have bought the 4gb kit but I bought the OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Platinum Revision 2 XTC to go with the set I already had.
Just plugged it in and it all ran fine. Ram timings and overclock was not effected by having the 4 sticks.
Cant really tell much of a performance difference as I also got my 24" screen at the same time which would not exactly help the performance of the pc!

well i went for the OCZ 4gb 6400 on offer this week (ordered before it went on offer :@ ) just replaced the ram direct, didn't reset my overclock luckily and its showing as 3.5gb ram in XP. As i multi screen and usually have browser/video open in my second screen and run warhammer on my main monitor i have noticed a large performance increase, check in the task manager and it is already making use of the new ram.

So i'm happy with the decidion to upgrade, thanks for advice all :)
