Hey, on my new computer build I'm planning on buying 4gb of Ram. I was originally going to buy the Corsair PC2-6400
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)

But then came accross the Kingston HyperX 8500 for the rediculously cheap £44 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-033-KS

However I know that despite being of a slower speed the Corsair is a well reknowned make whereas with Kingston I just really know of their value ram.

So my question is, which is better and would it be worth taking advantage of this deal on the Kingston?

Kingston is good stuff but i would'nt get that kit. It has terrible timings. OCUK list it as having 6-6-6-18 yet Kingstons own website has it listed as 7-7-7-20. Both timings are abysmal anyway.

If youre only going to run it at 800Mhz it will run happily at 5-5-5-18, but i prefer to run mine at 1066Mhz @ 6-7-7-18 and so far it seems quicker than the Geil did at 800Mhz 4-4-4-15 but it could just be my imagination lol :)

I got some of the Kingston last week when it was £41

So far so good. It seems happy at 1066Mhz 1.9V 6-5-5-15

It won't have Cas5 at any voltage in by N750i board though the others are fine when set lower

Doesn't seem to like voltage either, rated 2.0-2.1V but had a few reboot issues @ 2.1V I hadn't seen when it was lower.
At 1.95V and below, no issues and Prime + memtest stable

Little overclocking though. mime won't do 1100Mhz even at 7-7-7-21

Still, 1066 Ram did make a surprising difference in Crysis. It must like memory bandwidth a whole lot.

Edit

The official timings are 6-6-6-18 but it's programmed to 7-7-7-20 to allow it to boot at 1.8V. Timings have to be set manually like most DDR

I'll try mine at 6-5-5-15 later on :)

After a lot of "umming and arring" I finally ordered these to go with a DFI LT X38 (instead of the X48!) and a yet to be determined CPU.

I figured I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between CAS 5 and CAS 6, so who gives a **** when you're saving about £30!!

OOI what kind of heatspreaders do they have?

Cheers,

Suman

Dont bother about the timings, theres so little difference between CAS5 & 6 anyone that says they can tell the difference in real world performance is either lying or sad.

The Kingstons look fine to me.
