Job interview with bmw today!

Hi all, I thought this would be the right forum because it's about motorbikes. Today after many months trying to find the right job I have found one and have an interview at 3pm today. Reason for my posting is does anybody here work for bmw? Whats it like? I will be working as a trainee mechanic on motorbikes. The only downside of the job is I will have to travel to london every now and then to go to their own bmw college but thats not the end of the world!

Anyway if anybody had any advise would be greatful.

Congratulations. I dont work for BMW, but go in with an open mind and just be ready to take in everything they say. Im sure it will be a great experience. I hope you do well.

Should be a safe bet.

You're basically going to be the lowest of the low at a dealer for a few years, but you take one day a week to go and do some training, which the garage pays for.

They don't like apprentices disappearing off elsewhere after they qualify, so they're unlikely to let you go themselves.

Yup, the ammount of staff that have gone through Knights in Stafford is unbelieveable.
 
I think a guy here works at a BMW dealer..he has a lambo in his sig, name escapes me...

Drove past there earlier, wondered what had happened to it...completely empty :o now I know :p
 
You could do a lot worse in the current climate than BMW. Being that you are only an apprentice means they will probably pay you poorly and if they are willing to put money into your education then they are likely to want to hang onto you.
 
It is totally dependant on the franchise whether they are good to work for or not. The one I work for is good but the one down the road from me is awful.
The trainee program for the mechanics is excellent. Not sure about MOTORAD (Bikes) but the rest of the groups training is done at Wokefield Park in Reading. There is a purpose built facility in the grounds of a De-Vere hotel there that cost them £17 Million a couple of years ago.
I Believe the mechanics are very well paid for their trade and there are loads of opportunities to progress etc.

As has been said above, It isnt the best time to be getting into the motor trade but good luck anyway!
 
Nice one, must be nice working somewhere that you really have an interest in what they actually do, hope it goes/went ok for you.

I went past the Bentley garage in Exeter on my way to work yesterday, full of cars.

Went past on my way home yesterday, everything but an M3 on the forecourt gone.

Went past again on the way in today, nothing there at all, inside or out, bar a couple of desks and pcs.

Thought maybe it's having a refurb or something, then caught the front page of Exeters local rag and the main story was about the dealership going bust :(

Pity as they always had decent stuff in there to ogle. Still, the Ferrari garage have got a nice bright orange lambo convertible in (and some Abarth looking Fiat 500s that I guiltily look at and like).

BTW, I dont think the job is with BMW, it's with a dealer which is a separate company (with a BMW franchise) :p

God, that is very worrying for me - I've just started as an Apprentice at a Bentley dealership two months ago!

I heard rumours from the other guys on the course that the girl who worked there wouldn't be joining us again - I didn't believe them, but now the peices are beginning to fit, she must have been laid off! :(
