Good places to eat out in Milton Keynes

MK has some truely dreadful estates but most places do and its no worse then back home in the North east was. That said some estates make you feel like something from the Hills have Eyes.
Some very good ethnic restruants as someone put in it MK and Stoney, good indian/Thai/chinese(both western and "real" chinese).
It took me 9 years to finally buy a place in MK, but over the last 5 years the town has really come on in terms of things to do and places to eat and drink.

MK gets a right slaggin off from most people but I have to say its grown on me to an extent. Its still not ideal but it is the best new town in the UK I think.

most popular new town in the UK i read somewhere.

Yea your right some places are dodgy as hell but i think you are always going to get that in any town/city.

I must say im yet to find a very good thai restruant. So if anyone can suggest a really good one id love to know.

As most people have said MK has got a lot better over the years much more choice than there used to be.

Got to agree there! Having moved from a leafy town in Devon were everybody knew everyone else i was somewhat sceptical of MK, not sure i'd live in the center but there are some really nice little villages pocketed around all within easy reach of the center.

As we've been to the harvester quite a few times already, and I agree its a good place to eat, so it is recommended, I'm going to try Ship Ashore for a change. Just realised, its not far from Willen Lake so thats handy.

MK has been called soulless and drab or boring to me by a few. Stuck in the 80's shopping centre they say, but I like it. The area I'm in seems fine, gf's mum lives in Tattenhoe?? That's nice as well. But Fishermead was rough, I was worried leaving my car parked outside but as said any town has its bad areas.....

The only confusion I've had is that the town doesn't appear to have a high street as such..... If you know what I mean, anyone who's been there or live there will know, and the H system is a bit confusing at first.... The amount of times I've lost all sense of direction and took a wrong turn at a roundabout and ended up driving around a whole block to get back to where I need to be.. :p

Its all good fun...

Is the Waitrose in the hub? Near a sainsburys store? Or is there more then one Waitrose in MK?

I'm also trying to find a really good chinese in MK. Not a takeaway, westcroft has a fantastic chinese driving towards Tattenhoe?? But one where you can sit down etc......

I see Olney Park now has a Dominoes.... Whoops, bad news for me, I've been trying to cut back on them, now there is one five minutes away... :D

Waitrose is in the food center, next to the Theatre. If you're after a nice Chinese, I'd highly recommend Taipan in the Theatre District.

Chinese in MK, I didnt like Taipan in theater district, Royal lido in CBX is so so and the other sister place also in CBX thats does all you can eat buffet is cheap but thats quantity over quality.

Jasmin Garden in oldbrook is the best "Chinese" chinese and does good Dim Sum.
DimT in the hub is ok but over priced.
Hong Kong takeaway in Furzton is very good.
Best sit down "western style" chinese it probally the one in Great Holm on the lake Kam Tong Garden. But its been a while since i went there.

Thai food, 3 good ones.
Thai modern on wittan gate near the hub (used to be metros) is very good and the £20 a head banquett is fantastic (choice of 3 menus and ALLOT of food)
The top floor of Jaipur is the Orchid lounge, ment to be very very good but its also abit more expensive. (bit like downstairs in jaipur for indian) fantastic decor and presentation,
Thai place in stoney I cant remeber the name of was very good as well.

was going to try shriaz the other week but one of the group made a big deal about not wanting to try it so we ended up in red hot (cheap and if you can handle the pushing and shoving its not too bad, but it made me think of school dinners quing up for my food). Will have to give shriaz a go one night soon.

Hong Kong takeaway in Furzton - thats the one I've been to. Its excellent, I've had a few from there, my gf swears by them and reckons its one of the best in MK.

Furzton is a lovely area and the lake is a great dog walk. I'll have to search out Great Holm on the lake Kam Tong Garden.

Pleased to see a few on here from MK, its helping me out as its going to be nice to go home tonight and say I've found a few places we can go without her having to think them up all the time....

I still haven't moved to MK fully mind, I still have my home in Northampton as my mum still lives there (another story - anyone remember the tread I posted about that? oh dear), so need to get that sorted before I move fully (great..) Rather go to MK, work in Northampton, drive to MK its hardly a big deal. M1 can get a bit busy but its worth it.

On another subject, anyone been to cineworld and used the deluxe seats in MK escape? Is it worth the extra charge, as I think you can get a beer on the deluxe, Northampton doesn't have that.

Isn't there a Toby's Carvery as well? that used to be good when I went there last time :)

there is, and I think its in Loughton... We had a voucher once for a fiver each, including ice-cream after the main meal.....Four meals for 20 squids is a good deal, but I sometimes find the toby hit n miss..... Last time I went we had vouchers, and the veg was bad... Not that you couldn't eat it, but over cooked, and bland....

Meat was ok, but you can't get a second helping of meat..... gf's dad had a steak n ale pie there, said it was rather nice....

Meh, my friend swears by the deluxe seats, I've only used them 3 times I think....

Indeed there is a completely seperate bar for the deluxe part as well, so beer is available.

Apparently the sound is better, but I wouldn't know...The seats are moer comfortable as well I think....But it has been a while since I last went :p

Isn't it something like £8 a ticket?

Fair do's :)

I've never had any major issues with it I don't think, my dad used to love it...we always went for my nan's birthday.

Deluxe seats in MK cineworld are £9.50. But if you get better seats and can have a beer then that has to be cool, not drank a beer whilst watching a movie in the cinema before - new for me anyhow.....

Christ that much already? Price hike much? :p

The deluxe screens are pretty good and only a few quid more than standard. The seating is better and so is the screen/sound. I went to watch Quantum of Solace on Sunday and had to default to the standard which had pretty poor sound. The bar is good as you can arrive early and relax in there before going to your seat (with your drink).

As we have all the MK people in one place, does anyone know whats gunna happen to the food court building where Sainsburys used to be as i hear that Waitrose is surposed to be moving and most of the shops and bars have been closed now??
