F1 Racing in 1979

It may have been more exciting, but F1 drivers being killed was common.

So be it. Motorsport is dangerous, and the drivers knew that. RIP to all those greats.

I haven't watched F1 in years, it quite literally send me to sleep now :(

This is one of my favorite clips, Jean Alesi overtakes Schumacher and Mansell in one move in the 1991 Spanish GP, one of the most beautiful overtaking moves I've ever seen.

Woah....never seen anything like that before! (heguns post)

If that happened these days, the FIA would probably have given them both a season suspension!

Safety in a way has ruined the racing. The drivers are so comfortable in how safe they are they will use the car as a weapon and regularly run each other off the track. In the OP clip the drivers are trying as hard to leave each other a car width as they are trying to pass each other.

Very few of the modern F1 drivers seem to have much racecraft. A driver gets alongside and they start edging them towards the grass or chop across the nose. They are left in a situation of either having an accident or backing out.

The FIA never came down hard enough on that tactic.

There is very little respect between drivers. So secure in the little tub they will brake test another driver.

If the cars didn't leave a car width or ran another car out of track I'd have them sitting out the next race. They would soon learn and you would have drivers repass each other. They would have to slow into a corner to make sure they made it and leave the car on the outside with enough track.

One of the few times I ever saw MS actually leave a car width on exit....
