Hey guys what is a good CPU Cooler for a E8400 that will preform well and also to be able to fit in the Antec P182 case?

Wanna try my hand at overclocking :) Any tips?

Thanks

+1 For the TRUE, it fits in an Antec300 so should fit in pretty much any case.

V Good Cooler, slap on a quiet fan and its gerat for the price, which, OcUK seem to have reduced to something similar to other stockists now :)

An Akasa AK-965 would be fine as long as your not going to push it past 4Ghz.

The one sat on mine at 3.8Ghz sits idle between 32/36c and no more than 52c under load.

I am just surfing the web, msn and playing the football manager demo and my temps according to core temp

Are

37/39 1st core
44 on 2nd core.

Are they high for stock cooler?

They are roundabout spot on for a stock cooler.

Hmm might go with your option off the Akasa AK-965. It seems good value for money if you can get 3.8ghz I will be honest spending 60-70 quid on a cooler + Fan is abit much :p.

Any thing else maybe a little more than the Akasa that is good?

if you are spending £100+ on a cpu and plan to overclock it - surely you should consider looking at the best cooling for it you can

in my experience if you buy cheap, you buy twice

I'm looking for the same thing as Eatchipz. Is the Noctua NH-U12P still good as a very quiet cooler? It seemed like a good choice a month or so ago, but maybe some new, as good coolers have been released since then?

I was mainly looking at the Noctua because of the included fan and thermal paste, and it seems like it will work right away (i.e. no lapping).

I am not even sure that would fit. Do you need fans for it?

Depends how hard you clock your chip and what vCore u need?

I ran a mild overclock on a 65nm part and found the cooling was so good with the Antec P182 I didn't need to use a CPU fan. The TRUE is a very good heatsink if you can afford it but there are other good choices including the Xigmatek HDT-1283 and the Akasa AK-965, the latter is a real nice bang-for-buck cooler!

$$$ = Thermalright
$$ = Xigmatek
$ = Akasa
