Im getting rid of my 37" Samsung as its never getting used (as i have a 50" panny aswell). But i need to replace it with something BIGGER (40" or 42"). Its going in the spare room.

It doesnt have to be fancy or anything like that. Just something that is average/medium which is ood for SD and PS3 gaming now and then.

Any recommendations?

Panasonic 42px80.

Maybe a little over budget but the best screen in this price range period.

For this sort of money i'd be expecting 1080p to be honest, as prices have fallen so much, but I guess it depends what you'll use it for..

1080p doesn't mean a better picture, it's just one of a number of functions that lead to a good picture. Unless I was going to be using the screen as a monitor for a lot of desktop use, I'd be more concerned with the overall quality of the picture than the number of pixels, contrast ratio or any other number printed on the side of the box.

I've got a £1700 42" 720p screen that will blow every 1080p LCD out of the water.

However, what is important is that you like the image that the TV produces so you shouldn't take anything I say as gospel either.

Well i was looking at getting the 40" Sony Bravia KDL40V4000 which is 1080p with 24Hz playback which was coming out as £619.00 incl P&P but i rather get a high quality 42" 720p screen rather than a entry level 1080p screen.

Plus, a 42" screen and a viewing distance of 6/7 ft and the difference between 720p and 1080p is minimal if anything at all.

I'll only be using it for PS3 gaming, SD playback and very rarely for HD playback. It will be going in my 2nd living room.

Plus, im very happy with my 1080P 50PZ80B and this 720P 42PX80 will be just as good interms of quality.

It's like buying a directx 10 gfx card when all the hype first started. Oooo oooo I must futureproof, all games will have it next year and older DX9 will look crap ;)

1080p is mainly marketing. Good for the extra pixels when using as a pc monitor, or when sitting up close to the screen, and I would say about 5ft. When I compared 1080p vs 768p pioneer screens setup side by side it actually took me 10mins to tell any difference at all. I have told this story a number of times so won't repeat, but most importantly it opened my eyes to the 1080p and made me realise how many people post 'I see massive difference on my set', which actually means bugger all as they really haven't done it properly.

Also what 1080p footage is out there ? BLu and hd-dv, and a handful of games. Tv will never be broadcast in 1080p as it is impossible because of the bandwidth constraints.

Enjoy photoshop, you have 2 great tvs, the panny is great. Don't forget to have a look at some rough settings on avforusm to get you started :D

Just realised the 42PX80 has HDMI version 1.2.
Is this going to make any difference?

Looking at the number of people who have got one on AVForums i think not as its a very popular plasma but i'd thought i'd ask anyway.....
