Capetown - anyone been?

I guess it could just be my perception since I know what things used to cost and what they cost now. Obviously the exchange rate is great but I find when converting to and from things arent any or much cheaper anymore. Just my perception obviously, maybe Im wrong!

That sounds really cool! So it is pretty good value for money if you find the right place?

I thought so, very easy to eat cheaply (£20 a head) at nice places. I thought the whole county was very good value and I could have spent far, far less but wanted a nice break.

Why do you want a hotel? There are a lot of very high quality guest houses out there that offer the same facilities but are far smaller, quieter and more personal (try this 18 On Crox )

Prices have shot up astronomically since I left nearly 7 years ago.

R10 for a large packet of crisps, which cost R5 when I left, lol.

Still, the pound is strong against the rand, smokes are around £1.60 a pack, haha!

Just came back from SA - had my wedding there - prices of groceries are silly at the moment, however weirdly enough eating out and drinks etc remained very cheap!

I stayed at the Cullinan Hotel a few years ago - very nice.

Make sure you get some good sight seeing trips in, it's a lovely part of the world.

Still cheap aye but when you consider in December (when I was last back) I was paying R18 for a pack and they are now R26, shocking really :( As said earlier, groceries are so expensive my poor sister on a Uni bursary is battling.

Because I'm a snob. No, seriously, I just prefer the hotel life. A guest house reminds me too much of a travel lodge. I like the hotel atmosphere. But I'll have a look at those.

..Well we booked a 'chic boutique' hotel - I hope it's okay! It does look very nice, but it is totally different for us. It's tiny, with just 12 rooms. But when I looked at some of the guest houses you guys posted we couldn't resist! We also got a reasonably good deal on it too, so we're well chuffed.

Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel. It does very well on Trip Advisor too!
