How much for a new boiler?

I have a house rented out in the UK and the boiler keeps playing up every year. It's now nearly 12years old and the engineers keep saying 'replace it'.
Phoned British Gas but can't give any indication of how much it will cost to replace it.
So how much would a standard combi boiler (for a 2bed house) cost to replace with installation costs? Talking a real rough price here.
Also am I reading this right in the fact that if the tenant has a child under 16 she can apply for a grant - i.e she doesn't have to qualify for any of the other bullet points?
2. Householders with a child under 16, or pregnant women with maternity certificate MAT-B1, in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

* Income Support
* Council Tax Benefit
* Housing Benefit
* Job Seekers Allowance (income-based)
* Pension Credit
* Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Thanks :)

Edit: Sorry for the lame and boring request!

What ever you do don't bother getting British Gas to replace a boiler. I got a quote from them and it was comedy gold - twice the next most expensive I had.

I paid about £2.5K to replace my boiler (and a couple of radiators), that was for a big Worcester Bosch boiler done by the local Worcester agent so a smaller boiler fitted by an independent should be less than that.

As for the grant the quote is clear that she needs to fulfill at least one of the bullet points in addition to having a child under 16.

got quoted 2k recently inc. fitting (moving downstairs from original upstairs location too)

Ok cool, thanks for the replies. I was thinking it would be in the region of 2grand :(
Think I'll give those guys a call and see what they say :)

Hey, Im a plumbing and heating estimator, and for that Worcester 28I junior its about £700 quid, plus whatever your installer charges for installation over there, I would have no idea being in Northern Ireland. Give worcester bosch a ring, they are very helpful.

Thanks Archy, phoned about 4 places so far and none will give you any idea :D one place said well it could cost 2,500 up to 7,000 depending on the work lol
Guess I'll have to have the tenant arrange some appointments and go from there. So don't use British Gas right? And aim for a Worcester unit?

Why don't use British Gas? Our prices have come down loooooads recently. Yes, we still cost more than an independent plumber but you'll get better service and warranty. And we only use Worcester boilers ;) :p

lol, don't know - just going off other peoples recommendations? I like the warranty/service idea - $7 a month or something! My Uncle works for British Gas - is there any sort of employee discount at all?

Surely he can do it for you for free?

No idea - the house is in Essex and he works in North East London. I'm going to call him at the wkend and see what's up. So if I buy the boiler he can install it for cheap you reckon?

I got a new A rated powerful combi boiler for £750(trade), and got it fitted by a local CORGI chap for £400.

Now this I could live with. Just annoying I have to have the people round to 'survey' it when I'm not there.

Ken - I think you mean Polish, this is England we are talking about :p

Probs cheaper to get the mexi's a plane ticket tbh :p

or lure them into thinking they've won a free holiday, when they get to england make them install the boiler then run off.

Worcester Bosch boilers are the dogs, very reliable and efficient, definitely try to get one.

Funnily enough, I fitted one today :p

They are good boilers, but their price reflects this and they are priced quite a bit higher than Baxi or similar
