I have used both and I find myself getting lost in the NXE.

Any PS3 owners favouring the NXE
or
Any 360 owners favouring the XMB

Whos winning the interface wars.

purely for the party system.

I think the OP is referring to the actual interface layout rather than particular features, hence him referring to the fact he gets lost in the NXE. It is after all a feature of a Gold sub, and not a part of the basic interface as such (if you see what i mean).

The NXE? I don't get what you're saying, it's not restricted to Gold sub at all. Or have I misunderstood?

Edit: Eh you meant the party system. I got confuzzled.

I was commenting on the fact he cited the party system as the winning point for the NXEs interface. I'm not certain, but isn't it a new feature of Xbox Live! and not actually a part of the rejigged interface? I'm not disputing that it's a great addition, just the fact that it isn't part of the interface itself which is what the OP was asking us to discuss.

[EDIT] I've edited my previous post to make it clearer which bit of the quoted post i was referring to.

16:10 resolutions, party play, group voice chat & full game installs.

Yet again, the OP asked which people felt was the best INTERFACE, as in, layout, ease of navigability etc. It's obvious a paid for service is going to be better than a free one, i think everyone accepted that months ago.

lol this is getting silly, as soon as someone mentions a new feature... NO THAT DOESN'T COUNT!

ok then just by looks and navigation NXE wins as its fast and looks very sleek, if thats all this thread is about its a pretty poor thread tbh.

*sigh*

I'm not saying it doesn't count, i physically stated that gold is better at the end of my post it just wasn't a part of the interface, or did you jump to the reply button as soon as you saw me saying something that potentially disagreed with you?

The OP asked about the interface which means ease of use, navigability, artistic appeal etc etc. While i feel that This VS. That posts are fairly pointless, i do think discussion of the NXE is worthwhile as it is after all a complete rebuild of what 360 users have been using for years. I'm sure many who are considering investing in a new console would appreciate the feedback.

What you stated was not a part of the interface, it is a component of the online system, a fantastic component, but a component none the less which has nothing to do with the interface.

To me the NXE looks sleek and fast, i'm a little unsure of the fact that most panels seem to be rather large for no apparent reason, but at least that adds to the look.

NXE > XMB

NXE is a pretty big improvement over the old 360 dashboard, and that was better than the XMB too, back in the day. The XMB still lacks far too many features we take for granted, such as integrated unified friends list, proper musical selection during any game of your choice, realtime voice/messaging irrespective of what you are doing on the console, integration with online content, universal achievements/trophies for every single game, and so on. The PS3's interface is somewhere between the first Xbox and the 360. It's good, but it's far too late to make the important changes now. It had to be implemented at the console's launch, but Sony failed to catch on.

You will never ever see the featureset of the XMB reach to the level of the 360's dashboard/NXE. You would have to wait for a PS4 for that. The fundamental differences in terms of memory usage and integration with the software library is too large and nigh on impossible to retroactively fit.

Even the worst Xbox 360 games have a far more intuitive and better online interface and layout than the best of PS3's works, thanks to the impecceble integration and seamlessness. Metal Gear Solid 4's online segment for example is a complete mess requiring individual Konami accounts as well as your PSN account (it's also at the mercy of the third party servers, something Sony has no control over), while games like Barbie Horse and Ride or whatever is straight-forward and hassle free.

I'm a PS3 owner and imo the NXE is gonna cream the PS3s one.

PS3 one will be over complex and clunky to use, instead of taking a few secs to play on line its gonna be a pain in the ass...

At the moment developers go out their way to make playing with friends imposible, forcing you to make phone calls to each other. I cant see that changing anytime soon :)

Havent used NXE but having previously had a 360 (And now a ps3, although Ive got another 360 still in the livingroom), the xbox, its dashboard and all its live functions were far superior to that of the PS3, it took ages for ingame messaging to come to the ps3 and thats a start. I have high hopes for "Home" but i dont think its gonna be quite as functional as the xbox for its chatting/game invite system, sony would be just aswell starting again

Interface wise the XMB wins hands down. Is fast, responsive and uncluttered.

In comparison the NXE feels 'cramped', easy to get lost in and not much faster then before (the animations have just been smoothed to give the appearance of speed, but atleast its something).

BUT... That said the NXE is much better intergrated and more fully featured. Mostly due to the vastly superior live service, even with silver.

Overall NXE is leaps and bounds better then the ill thought out dash of old but far from perfect, as is the XMB. Ultimately i would like a interface that combines elements of both, but thats never gong to happen.

Even though I am an Xbox owner, I am one for a reason.

Before purchasing this console I tried both system and found PSN looked far too complicated but have less features than Xbox Live.

So I went with the 360 for this reason, not because I am a fan boy.

I have used both and find the XMB to be far superior as a menu system. It is simple, uncluttered, elegant and fast. The NXE is complex, cluttered, slow and ugly.

It's only simple and comparitively faster (not by much - in fact it's slower than the NXE in-game) because it has a ton of missing features.

After having a good play around with the NXE I've got to say I still prefer the XMB.

Everything is there for you to access without having to go "into" folders. The NXE is annoying when you go several folders deep then have to keep pressing B to return to the previous folder until you get to the root folder to be able to return to another root folder. There needs to be a button that will take you back to the root like they introduced with taking you back to the Marketplace blade a while ago.
